Going under anesthesia... ?

posted 10th Jun '12
I had surgery when I was 7, but I have no idea what it feels like and I have surgery tomorrow morning for all 4 impacted wisdom teeth. It would be awesome if you guys could just tell me what it's like, I'm terrified of the dentist altogether but oral surgery puts me on a different level.

its just like you are going to sleep. They will put a mask over your face and have you count backwards from 10.

It feels like your spinning at first and then you are just asleep and unaware of anything until you wake up. You are not even aware of the fact that you even went to sleep and you don't dream anything just an out and then back up x amount of time later.

I've been put under more times than can be healthy.
I always get a little warm feeling- like when you're chilly and step into the sunlight. Then my hearing sounds like I'm under water for a second- then a slight light- headedness, then gone.
And I wake up tired and in and out of consciousness. I'll think I'm awake but then the nurse will be telling me to open my eyes, and I realize they are, in fact, closed.

If they're anything like the surgeon I went to for my wisdom teeth it could go like this. Nitrous Oxide to make you fuzzy, then the IV, then sedation. It's a great way to go!

I had my wisdom teeth out at 16

they didn't put me 'under', but they gave me stuff that made me very very tired/sleepy, kind of like that moment of calm/relaxed right before you fall asleep after a really nice day when you're tired but not exhausted...

they had to give me the rest of the 'dose' halfway through because I started feeling pressure after two teeth were done, but it went right back to that dreamy almost-asleep feeling

for some odd reason after it was done I couldn't stop crying for about an hour... not 'bawling' just tears running down my face....Guess it was just a precursor cause healing from that SUCKED.... (my teeth were really impacted though so they had to break them out instead of just pull them...*)

My oral surgeon had this stuff he gives you before using the anesthesia that makes me not remember anything from a few mins to a half hour before being put under. I want to op out of it because I love the feeling right before you actually go out. I'm weird like that. Everything gets loud, then you get tunnel vision. Everything also feels heavy but then it's over with in a few seconds. My body tries to resist the drugs so I'm able to remember more of it.

That was the second surgery I had...I woke up half way during surgery and then I woke up so fast that I took off out the door with the nurses chasing me. It was not bad at all...it always sounds worse then it is from other peoples stories...

All 4 of my wisdom teeth were compacted and impacted.

I got a shot, boom. Out.

Woke up stupid and numb as hell lol I was lost and completely retarded.

I couldnt find my sunglasses that were right on top of my head lol

Anyway, by the end of the day I was miserable. I was out of it for 3 days. Take your meds and youll be as good as youre going to get.

I was put under by IV with both my c-section and when they removed my IUD and all I remember is being asleep and then waking up about an hour later. Oh and if you tell them you are nervous they can give you a shot that helps relax you.

I hope it's just boom and I'm out because I'm scared of the "falling" feeling I hear about.

I'm definitely going to tell them. Because I am not just nervous, I'm terrified.

Did you sue? I would have. First off, they're supposed to pretty much strap you down so if your body jerks or anything, it protects you from getting hurt or falling off the table. Also, the anesthesiologist is supposed to do their job right.
