Baby Formula
posted 6th May
Hi everyone! I'm trying to prepare a baby budget, but I know nothing about formula. I know that all babies are different, but about how long will 3 pounds of powder formula last? Please help!

It depends on how much you feed your baby and how often.

No idea, but if your having to budget for it you should really be seriously considering bf, it's your choice, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper and much better for baby. Good luck budgeting

Somebody's always gotta throw that in there...
I've heard that if you qualify for WIC that they help out with quite a bit of it.

Atleast I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Thanks for all the replies so far! I definately plan to breast feed, I just want to factor in everything so I know where we stand financially just in case I'm unable to. Our baby will more than likely be going to daycare after three months - would I be able to pump enough breast milk or would I have to incorporate formula at that point?

You can pump and freeze breastmilk so that you have enough for when your child goes to daycare and most workplaces have a pumping area for breastfeedings moms so that you can keep your supply up.

Jiminy Christmas! She asked from a budgetary standpoint what is the cheapest. And breast feeding IS the cheapest. She's not trying to make her feel bad for formula feeding, she was answering the question. Geez Looweez.

You should have no problem pumping enough if you get a good pump. Medela pump in style advance is awesome. i didnt think i would have enough milk to bf but now im about to go back to work and have a freezer full already from just pumping occaisonally. Its so easy to do it too, no making bottles or warming stuff up in the middle of the night. I didnt bf my 1st 2 kids, so I've done both and can say bf is ALOT easier and cheaper than formula. Good Luck with whatever you decide! My older kids were formula babies and they are both healthy btw...
