questioning wic

While at the WIC office Friday the nurse was evaluating my daughter and suggested that she may have reflux. She said she had only gained the minimal amount she was suppose to gain. She was only 12lbs 2oz and 24 inches long, she is 4 months old. She went on to evaluate our breastfeeding routine and wanted to know how many times a day she was feeding and how many wet diapers she was having. I told her she was still eating about every 2-3 hours and is sleeping through the night and she was having about 5-6 wet diapers a day. She said that I needed to start pumping after her last feed before I put her to bed at night and then I also needed to wake her during the night to get in an extra feed. Is this needed to wake a 4 month old during the night to get in an extra feed she doesn't act hungry or dissatisfied between feedings and I feel she is getting enough during the day. What do you think? Oh yea I just weighed her and she was closer to 15 lbs.

No, that isn't necessary. My daughter was EBF, and weighed about the same at that age. She was petite, but healthy. I'm sure your daughter is just fine.

The people at the WIC office are stupid! I think their scales are off on purpose so they can bitch about how you parent. You don't have to wake a baby to eat, they will wake when they are hungry. Feeding schedules are dumb. I agree with Jennybananna just nod and smile.

This!!! If your doctor isn't concerned you shouldn't be. WIC flipped on me because from like 2-3 months till A was almost a year old she was only taking 24 oz of formula in a 24 hr period. Of course our pedi said that was enough as long as she was having enough wet diapers and gaining weight. She was a super slow weight gainer though but now she is a chunker.

thanks guys I think they use the same growth chart for formula and breastfed children. My son was a moose by this age and it just has me worried I guess. She just had me questioning my supply and latch which I have never had a problem with before and just sounded weird that she wanted me to wake a 4 month old to eat. I haven't done anything yet and I have a drs appt monday so we will see what she says about everything

Every time I have to take my kids, I get told how they're underweight. Blah blah blah. Not underweight, just small like their Mommie used to be.

she asked me what time I put her to bed and I said anywhere from 8:30-9:30 and then she asked me when she woke up and I told her usually around 6 or 7 and she was like     that is way too many hours between feeding could you wake her at least once during the night I almost said "no I will be enjoying my sleep" haha

They told me I shouldn't give my kids juice AT ALL! They got mad when I said they drank it.

Smurfing idiots they are. Unless the real doctor with a medical degree is worried just ignore them. I swear all they have are these outdated charts and think every baby should be the same.

  They lost it on me when I had to stop BFing one of my children back in 1996. They said I was making her sick   I said well if she is that sick then you need to let CPS know so they can investigate me. She just stared at me like I was crazy. I always use to ask what kind of medical license they have and they always seem to avoid the question...hmmm I wonder why? LOL
