welcome to da club. My MIL is a smurfin douche. I basically learned to pick my battles with her. She learned that she can't get away with her obnoxious comments because I'm the only person ever to step up to her and I learned to ignore her because she's a smurfin idiot most times. Trust me it's tough, but I wasn't gonna let her ass ruin things for me and DH. I remind her to keep her opinions to herself when she gets really out of hand.

I hate a large portion of DHs family. I deleted most of them on facebook, and I only speak to them when necessary. End of story.

I have and he's discussed it with them, anytime i say anything about my LO to any of them they cut in and say something like well their niece/ granddaughter is so much smarter and bla bla bla. And unfortuantly we share a duplex with them

yeah some people just can't change. My sister acts that way, she favors my nieces, it's annoying but I try not to let it get to me. I'd stop going over there, smurf them

it literally is smurfing annoying we're trying to find a new house but its taking too long... i was always told in order to love someone you must love their family too but I hate every single one of them well... almost all of them i like his sister that lives in Texas which explains why she lives there to begin with

It's already been said, but you are in the relationship with him, not them. DH's family treats my kids the same as they treat yours, and mine are even DH's biologically   It gets easier to deal with, just have to give it time. It does suck though. I have friends with amazing MILs and I am so envious. My best friend's mom is more of a mother figure to me than she is.

haha yup. I felt the same exact way, but apparently noone else gets the memo and my dh's family is rude as smurf sometimes. Some of the things they've said and done have made my jaw drop to the floor, different ways of life for people I guess. I just try and live my life and let them be barbarians if they want.
