What the heck am I doing wrong??!!!!

posted 8th Jun '12
I can't believe this. I'm just too tired and feeling overwhelmed I guess?

My 3rd child, Zoe was being evaluated for hearing loss. We were told it was hearing loss... Got some tests done, they said her ear drums were not vibrating as well as they should. We were told we would have tubes put in her ears since she's had numerous ear infections, hearing aids if needed and everything would be fine from there. She was showing mild speech delay and seemed like she was in her own bubble.

Well more hearing tests done, her hearing is fine. ENT suggested we should still get the tubes put in since she has liquid behind her ear drums. We thought ok. Other then that she hears fine. Back to speech therapy. We do another evaluation. Turns out she is between moderate and severe for receptive and expressive speech delay

I thought she was doing fine! I mean she is using words and trying to communicate. My first 2 had such severe speech delay they couldn't even say mama before 3 1/2. At 4-5 they STARTED using 2 word sentences. She's almost 3 and using words! 2 word sentences!...I guess it is not at her level still.

The speech therapist mentioned Dysphasia. She's pretty sure she has it. Urgh... Now this makes 3 kids out of 3 with SN. So we booked all the appointments etc. Another team, another set of therapy to try and fit in our schedule.

I have 1 in school now and I find it hard because it's difficult for him to learn. We work hard on homework etc. WTH am I going to do when all 3 are there?

I did EVERYTHING by the book with all 3 pregnancies and still this happens. I'm just so bitter about the situation. Why us? 1 ok, 2 alright we will take it now 3??? Man I'm frustrated!

Awe hun you can't blame yourself, it is what it is. The fact that you go out of your way to ensure your kids are on track is indicative of what kind of parent you are-attentive, loving, and proactive.. Big hugs, no blaming or regrets, you didn't do this. BTW I don't think stringing two words together by 3 is that far behind-I bet the tubes will make a big difference.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with what you did during pregnancy. Maybe you and your husband have some sort of genetic incompatibility? I wish you the best of luck. I can't even come to imagine how hard it must be.

See I said the exact same thing!
The speech therapist is worried though because her 2 word sentences are always the same. Like everyday stuff. "Zoe juice?" = I want juice. "Nani (her word for Emily) bobo" = Emily hurt me. She also said her vocabulary is too limited, that she uses no negation or feminine/masculine (in french everything including objects is feminine or masculine. It's weird I know lol), That she does not use 1st, 2nd or 3rd person or pronouns and that her receptive is way behind. I think her receptive is worse then her expressive but only time will tell I guess.

I thought she was doing fine. Not perfect but still ok...KWIM?

I asked about that before since we have gone through several miscarriages and with our first 2 being special needs.

I was told likely not because if it were that, our kids would have had much more severe physical deformities and chromosomal issues.

I didn't research any further then this though. Maybe I'll look into it.

Lol, English is one of the few languages That don't use Genderizations.

See I know that even Genetic Expression can have varying degrees, I'd be demanding now to be seeing a Genetic Specialist. You have 3 Full Sibilings (I am ASSuming), with the exact same issues. They may just not have a Severe expression.

Well Emily my daughter with Autism is going through some genetic testing. Since her Ped thought she was much too pale (she is REALLY pale) did not gain pigmentation during the summer even if she is as exposed outside as the other 2. She has really dark circles under her eyes and gets pinkeye all the time. At least twice a month due to blocked tear duct. That linked with the possibility of an intellectual deficiency (was revoked after further testing) she thought we should get her tested.

My son with Dysphasia is going through it also since he seems to have all the symptoms both physical and intellectual of boys who suffer from the xxyy syndrome.

It was hard to get the testing approved for him though since they only approve it for kids showing intellectual delay.
His non verbal cognitive levels are normal.

The waiting time for the results is 9 months. We had it done about 6 months ago so only time will tell I guess.

Well I know quite a bit of french, and I can honestly say as english being my 1st language, that congegating verbs, and using the proper gendering is difficult for me,lol. I do understand how you feel, I too have been humbled, but you have to know truthfully that you nor your children's father are responsible for this. Keep plugging along and use us for your proverbial shoulder-God knows I have a few shoulders I use .
