Wondering

So...I had my ultra sound on Friday, and the nurse at the mid-wife clinic called me yesterday after I went to work. I called them back this morning and they told me that I have a low placenta(it's actually near the cervix). The nurse told me not to worry, I'll just have to be put on restrictions....no sex, can't lift anything over 25lbs. no other strenuous activites, etc. I was wondering if anyone else had this. The nurse said that the placenta should rise....so in a month I get to have another ultra sound. If it doesn't rise....does anyone know what kind of further restrictions I'll have?

My friend had that problem before.. She was put on bedrest though at first she was put on the same restrictions they told you about. She wasn't supposed to walk around too much. But with her, the previa didn't improve and she was put on bedrest. She had to have a c-section too. I think it's because a vaginal birth would be difficult in these cases, when the cervix dilates and your placenta is there, it can also be exposed and separate from the uterus and baby could lack oxygen prematurely.. You can go to www.emedtv.com for more info.
But as long as you follow the restrictions imposed by your doctor there shouldn't be a problem. The placenta does rise in most cases as your uterus expands and gets bigger.
Good luck, mommas!

I was told @ 18 weeks that I also have a low lying placenta. I was not put on any restrictions. I was told to wait it out because 95% of the time they "migrate" out of the way. I am to get another ultrasound @ 32 weeks to check it's position. If it is still low, then I will be placed on similar restricitions and if bleeding occurs (from mom not baby) then it would be FULL bed rest. If it is covering the cervix at all, then we will have to talk about a c-section. They also said that low lying placenta's can restrict growth, but very slightly. It has something to do with the placenta not being in the most "nutrious" part of the uterus and the placement gets in the babies way. You may want to ask them to check your babies growth. One other concern they talked with me about was that some babies go breech because the placenta once again gets in the way and it is not comfortable for the baby to go head down. I am 29 weeks and my son is currently breech. Some babies move, some don't. These are just some things you may want to ask at your next sonogram. I would just relax and try to remember that odds of it moving are way better than the odds of it not. Good luck and follow those restrictions.

Thanks ladies....I'm glad there's other people that know about this stuff. Friday at the ultra sound the baby was on it's head and they said that it's growing fine. I'll hope for the best. I know my husband's not too happy with the restrictions, but he said he'll live for now. My 3 yr. old isn't happy, he's one of them boys that jump off the couch and land right on your back and stuff. I'll make do the best I can. Good Luck and I hope everyone else has luck with their pregnancy!
