re: Is it illegal to leave a baby at home by himself?

Exactly, you feel bad. But it's safer for you to make multiple trips. You'd never just leave him up there and be careless of it. You hurry as fast as you can.

And that is kinda cute lol

Quoting gtex:" This is what Im talking about, just because you are paranoid and worried doesnt mean something is likely ... [snip!] ... hear it anyway unless you were sitting right there. Human beings, even babies are good at not dying if left alone for an hour."

Imagine a two month old sitting in his or her excrement while crying and all alone because s/he's hungry and scared. Chances are this two month old is either lying in its crib unable to move since it's basically a newborn or it's strapped into a swing and even more unable to move. How is that okay and WHY are you trying to justify that??

That's only one of many moral dilemmas in such a situation. This doesn't even include the actual dangers of leaving a child alone. What if a fire were to start? What if someone broke in? What if there was a bad storm and no one was able to take the child to a safe area? What if there was a carbon dioxide or gas leak? What if a family pet got the child? What if someone kidnapped the baby (especially knowing the mother leaves it alone on a regular basis...)? What if the child started to suffocate? The SIDs excuse is beyond ridiculous, by the way. Yeah, babies die of suffocation and whatnot, but fewer babies die when parents are within the vicinity and hear the child in distress. And yeah, all of these things could happen while the parent is home too but the chances of the baby being unharmed go up when the parent is far away doing god knows what. Once again, this is common sense.

There's a reason it's illegal and it's not because people are "paranoid and worried," it's because common sense dictates that you should never, EVER leave a newborn alone in a home... not even for a few minutes.

Jesus H. Christ. How would you live with yourself if you left your child at home and something happened? Would you honestly just excuse it by saying it could've happened while you were there too?

Idk if this has already been said because I didn't read through all of the posts but does this girl remind you of the Ambien in the baby bottle girl? Sounds like some smurf that girl would say.

my point is there are so many things that have a higher chance of happening but you arent hysterical about those.

For example many people dont vaccinate, are they bad parents? Children that get measles have a 1/1000 chance of dying in the US

If you talk on the phone, text or eat while driving while your child is in your car then you are exposing them to much more risk than if you just leave them at home in their crib sleeping and run out for an hour. I bet most of you do this on a daily basis.

Again, I have never done it and never would, but I also wouldnt call CPS on my cousin who did this.

In many developed countries where they arent so paranoid (maybe they dont watch so much TV), the culture says that it is ok to leave children or babies alone for short periods. Sweden for example.

Okay. Turning your head for a minute or two while you are in the house with your baby is a whole hell of a lot different than leaving your two month old alone in a locked house, depending on someone else to enter your residence to take care of your child, after you've already left. That is a CPS worthy incident. Also, I think anyone who texts while they're driving, regardless of if they have kids or not, should have their cell phone shoved up their asses.

I'm not one to throw this out there, but seriously I can't believe you have children.
Any decent mother would be appalled at this situation and would hope some legal action be taken.
The fact that you think it's okay to leave a poor defenseless 2 month old at home, is sickening. I wonder what you think is okay to do with YOUR children.

Regardless of how likely it is to happen, the fact is IT CAN HAPPEN. A person's job as a mother is to love, nurture, and do EVERYTHING they can to protect your babies no matter what.

So get the smurf out, you're a pathetic excuse for a mother if you think smurf like this is okay and if you can honestly say that this doesn't make this woman a bad mom. This DEFINITELY makes her a bad mom.

You are an idiot. I cannot believe you are defending leaving a child at home by itself. How smurfing stupid can you get?!

do any of you have any evidence whatsoever for your arguments? seriously do any of you even have above a high school education? You can barely discuss this topic like intelligent human beings. Can any of you actually understand the concept of probabilities and how that relates to risk? You can imagine that your house would catch on fire and your baby would die, but do you have any sense of the actual chance of that happening?

In life we take risks all the time. If you have a swimming pool, regardless of if you are home, you have increased the risk to your child.

If you keep a gun in the house you have increased the risk to your child
If you dont vaccinate you have increased the risk to your child
If you sleep with your baby you have increased the risk to your child.

I dont think that leaving your immobile, sleeping baby alone for an hour substantially increases the risk to your child. Some people here have said 10 minutes, others have said they are crazy for doing it for 10 minutes. How about when you shower? Why not 30 minutes? Why not 60?

Obviously if you left your kid in a pile of smurf crying, stuck between the slats of their crib or whatever, then yes that deserves CPS.

As I have mentioned multiple times, I have never left my child home alone and wouldnt. But I also absolutely would not call CPS on my cousin, sister etc. for doing it. I would most likely offer to help out.

What argument? Are you kidding me? What part of IT'S SmUrfING ILLEGAL and NEGLECT are you not understanding? How much more of an argument do you need?
NOTHING you say is going to make it right for anyone to leave a smurfing newborn home alone. My God.
You don't justify leaving an INFANT home alone by saying they have a greater chance of dying in a car crash. You are grasping. You DO NOT leave a two month old home alone for hours. Jesus Christ.
Apparently, even a college education can't teach you common sense. Seriously? Your stupidity amazes me.

I think you're getting so defensive because you've left your kid at home by theirself and now you feel guilty about doing it, so I didn't even bother reading what you wrote, other than the first few sentences because you're full of smurf.

I've left Chub at home (sleeping) while I bring Fathead to school. *shrugs* Then again, the school is at the end of my street, and I'm gone for 5 minutes.

But an hour? no smurfing way. That's just in smurfing sane. just bring your damn kid out.

You're smurfing stupid.
You can change the kid's diaper, then they smurf in it right away and have to sit there in their smurf for hours screaming because you're not smurfing home.
There could be a fire, and no one to go grab that baby.

The risks may not be high, but they're smurfing there. That's reason enough. Go smurf yourself.
