So my daughter is almost 14 months old and today I threw away all of her bottles (cut cold turkey) it's going to be really hard and a job to get her off but I say the longer I wait the harder it'll be. Me and BD live with his grandma and I told her I threw them away and I will not be allowing bottles to be given to my daughter and she got mad I threw them away saying "we don't have the money to throw away 98 cent bottles!" when we have like 7 sippy cups I bought the other week! She told me to keep the bottles just in case my daughter doesn't want to give up the bottle, but it's not her choice! It's mine! She has 12 teeth getting ruined by the damn things! I'm not going to be scalded for decisions I make for my daughter!

she has no say so in the decision but to be honest....i drank from a bottle till i was around 7 LMAO well at 7 I didn't drink them all the time but on occasion it was a comfort thing and one day i decided to just stop. Ive never had a cavity and my teeth are perfectly(well not perfect but pretty close lmao!) straight. I think its more on how you care for the childs teeth and their genes..

it is best to get her off them asap. ultimately she is your child and you have to do what you think is best. i know with my boys ppl thought i was nuts for introducing the sippy b4 a year but i worry about their teeth.

Kind of cruel to do it cold turkey...Especially if she is used to one before bed...They say to cut back one a day, starting with nap time, then eventually cut out the bedtime bottle. Think, that is something that has comforted your daughter since she was born, and besdies the breast, is her only source of suckling. No doctor would recommend cold turkey like that.

We did it that way and had no issue.

You know how everyone has the best way for stopping something? With my daughters personality and constant urges to be in control I believe this is going to be the only way to cut it out.

The only thing parents should worry about is milk rot which happens by giving them a bottle or sippy cup with anything but water at night and leaving them with it in their cribs. The drink just sits in their mouth for extended periods of time essentially rotting the teeth out and constant sucking which won't happen from having an occasional bottle. Proper teeth brushing and moderating the bottle intake will prevent anything from hurting the teeth.
Im not saying give her a bottle back, you can go cold turkey and yes it does teach them better habits in a way. But the teeth thing is.....eh not as much a concern as most parents make it out to be.
Binkies and thumb suckers(like my daughter ) Are much worse then a bottle lol.

There is no way your 14 month old has "constant urges to be in control." She's 14 months old. That is just how you interpret it. She is not yet capable of controlling her emotions, and when she wants something, she shows it.

She really does. She is bossy and very controlling.

not every 14 month old is the same and committed mothers KNOW they children better then anyone else does. So maybe your children couldn't handle going cold turkey but that doesn't necessarily mean her child couldn't.

the doctors told us to start harli on cups at 6 months , the only way they learn is if you throw the bottles away i mean money goes to waste regardless bc you either let her ruin her teeth and pay for dental reconstruction if it gets to bad or throw away cheap bottles, tell the grand mom that your the mother and you will parent the way you see fit she really doesnt have a choice

Very untrue, my daughter, many other children i know, plus myself drank from cups and bottles at the same time just fine..so no its not the ONLY way they learn. Also bottles themselves do not ruin teeth, its bad hygiene ,bad habits the PARENTS make or genes...some people will have bad teeth no matter how hard they try to take care of them...its genetics.
