Sperm allergy

posted 6th Jun '12
My best friend told me to google this for her, but i cant really come up with anything that she has already read. SO, im posting this in TTC because she is TTC and thinks she has an allergy to her mans sperm.. Has anyone else had this problem? Where you able to concive the natural way or did you need help doing so? She told me to get creative and try to find some answers for her and if pregnancy is even possible. WELL this is about as creative as i can get with this.. What better then other womens stories that have the same issue. Her mom clock is ticking fast and shes really getting frustrated..(ESP since i just had her god child and her sister is now pregnant, so she is officially the LAST)

In case you do not know what the allergy is..heres a little info on it.

Sperm allergy, or semen allergy, known in medical terms as seminal plasma hypersensitivity, is fairly rare, affecting between 20,000 and 40,000 Americans. The allergy is actually to proteins in the semen and not the sperm itself. It is unclear whether women who are allergic to semen are allergic to all semen or just to the semen of their particular partners at the time of diagnosis. It is less common, though possible, for men to be allergic to semen. Some men are even allergic to their own semen.
Symptoms of semen allergy include redness, swelling, itching and burning wherever the semen contacted your skin. Some people may suffer from hives, difficulty breathing or even anaphylaxis in reaction to semen they are allergic to. Symptoms usually start within the first 20 to 30 minutes of contact and may last for hours or days. The symptoms are sometimes mistaken for STDs or other conditions because semen allergy is so rare.
The best ways to treat a semen allergy are to minimize contact with semen (by using a condom, for example), or by being desensitized to the semen, which is something doctors can do by exposing you to tiny amounts of semen and slowly working their way up.
If you suspect that you may be allergic to your partner's semen, see a doctor, preferably an allergist, to be properly tested, diagnosed and treated. Don't worry about your semen allergy preventing you from the ability to get pregnant. If you have a severe sensitivity to semen, you may be able to use artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization to get pregnant. The sperm is washed before insemination, cleansing it of the semen proteins, which means you shouldn't have a reaction to it

It depends on her symptoms.

If she is just uncomfortable afterward, then she can just deal with it and get pregnant anyway. If she's experiencing anaphylaxis, then no, probably not.

Its not when she has sex.. she can have sex just fine.. but if there is sperm involved thats when she has the problems.

I know, but that is my answer. If she can deal with it, then she can get pregnant. If she can't, then she can't. Maybe she can use OPKs and only have unprotected sex when she's ovulating, and use condoms otherwise.

If she's lucky, it'll only take one month.

My ex's stepmom's boyfriend actually had an issue where if he ejactulated in a woman she would get really sick. Any woman, and every woman he's ever done that with. He's now in mid 40's and raises her children as his own now.

Sounds like a yeast infection. My mom, a nurse, said that when I thought I had a yeast infection to use protection...because my husband could get it and then it could just be an endless cycle of passing it back and forth. Her symptoms sound a lot like a yeast infection too. Tell her to get an over the counter med for it. Can't hurt to try that. She could also try other remedies if she doesn't want to do the suppositories.
