How many of you have more than once child with Autism?

Did you want to believe it when they told you, you may have another child who shows signs of Autism?

Was it easier the 2nd time around?

Advice?

Well, I only had one child with Autism. It's pretty rare to have more than one, though it does happen.

It was my third child who had autism. He has now made a complete recovery, just graduated from high school and has joined the Army.

It's a 20% higher

I know one family who had 3/4 kids on the spectrum (oldest wasn't)
And Another had 2/3 (youngest daughter wasn't)
And at least 6 others who had siblings on the spectrum (both attended my old school) but I'm not sure if those families had more on the spectrum or not

My oldest son is autistic. My other two are not. I am not sure, obviously lol, if the baby I am carrying now will be autistic. I have however been told two different things by different professionals. One says that since autism is more linked to environmental and other influences and since no two pregnancies are the same that it's not the same as carrying a gene that you can pass on. The other professional who has 3 autistic sons herself says it is more likely if you have one to have others. I also know a family who has 3 children and only one is ASD. So, I'm sorry I'm not more help but I'm on the fence myself. If it's anyhelp the professional with the 3 autistic sons says that it isn't any harder than having 1 autistic son....of course I'm sure that it also depends on where on the spectrum they fall.

I have son from a previous relationship who has Autism, ADHD and a list of other things (he has the alphabet after his name without even going to university). I am currently pregnant and I am worried myself if this child could be the same too, it wouldn't make a difference to me if baby carrot is as I will love my children unconditionally, just worried I might not be able to cope with 2 the same x

Rare? I wouldnt say that. I know quite a few people with more than one child on the spectrum actually.

I don't have a child with autism however I have been people with disabilities for my whole life, and worked in disability/community health sector for the past 15 years.
I have seen both families with multiple children on the spectrum, and families with only one of their children on the spectrum.
Whilst I have seen families in both situations, sadly, at least in my experience the majority have been with multiple children living with autism, or another disorder on the spectrum.
If I had to make an estimate of the ratio of families with more than one child living with ASD, to those without, in has been about 40 families with multiple, with only about 5 families with other children living without a disability.

my estimate is based purely on the people I have known, I am not in anyway saying that it a researched statistic/fact!

Most of the people in my ASD support group only have one child. Everyone else has two. None of them have more than one child on the spectrum. I have 2 children, one on, one not. However, I don't think for me, it would be easier to do again. I mean, logistically it would, but emotionally I would be pretty furious to have 2 children on the spectrum. Like, God, can't I just have one typical child? I had worried about that, but now my children are almost 6 and almost 4 and the 4 year old is obviously not on the spectrum.
