Would u have a child if there was a huge possibility that u could give that child a disease that you have? Is this selfish to any of u as well? if a child of mine could enherit a disease that tormants me i would get my tubes tied and never take that chance.

Depends on the disease and the genetic possibilities. There are some diseases that both parents have to be carriers for. Some that are just an increased risk but that are manageable.

some diseases are obviously worse than others. if it was a mild disease that can be controlled by meds and doesn't give you a life expectancy of 25 years then that's not so bad. idk, i had taken a chance by having a kid. im adopted and know nothing family medical history-wise. i'm alive and well as of now so fingers crossed.

There are ways to go about preventing some diseases from being passed on to the child. There is also (expensive) procedures to test embryo's before having them transfered if IVF is an option.

I'm with the other ladies... depends on the disease, the likelihood of passing it on, the finances i have available to me, etc...

People WITHOUT diseases can be carriers and pass it along to their kids, too.

It would depend on what exactly I would have a chance of passing on. Me and my DH are TTC knowing there is a chance we could have another bipolar child since it runs rapid in my family. I actually had a woman ask me why I would do it and take the chance. 

I have. I have asthma & still had my daughter and pregnant again.
I dont want her to have asthma but I also know she can & will be ok if she does have it, and we can cope, she would be ok. So far she hasnt shown any sign.
My daughter is my world & I wouldnt want to hurt her so the thought of her having asthma kills me but she is perfect regardless xx
