re: Sushi?

posted 5th May
I thought the CA roll was the one with the veggies and no fish in it? Did I mix them up.

By the way, thanks alot, I'm a little upset that its 9:00p.m. and you all have me wanting sushi and the only good sushi around me is about 1/2hour away and they're closed!

I know what you mean. I like good sushi when I eat it! I can't wait to divulge after pregnancy...but then there are the BF rules too. Grrr!

CA roll is usually at least crab, avacado, and cucumber. Sometimes theres carrots or it's rolled in the fish eggs..

Oh man I didn't even think about while I was breastfeeding! But I am sure if you can drink while BF, you can eat a little bit of raw fish, too, haha./

And for the girl who wants sushi, sorry ot hear! Same here, 1/2 hour or an hour to nearest location. Status, closed haha. Not that I have the money, anyway, but I feel your pain.

And walmart sushi is NOT ANYWHERE NEAR GOOD SHUSHI! I tried and was very disappointed =[

Quoting Irishewwie:“ Just why aren't we allowed to eat it? I know plenty of women who have and nothings wrong with their babies.”

Well my doctor said that it's actually fine to eat sushi, no more than twice a week and from a reputable restaurant. She said to stay away from canned tuna though. I still haven't gotten up the guts to actually order raw sushi, when I go I get the deep fried stuff   But I do make sure to get my seafood fix at least once a week. A couple nights ago I had a filet of tilapia and oh so yummy!

My doc also told me it was safe to use proactiv during pregnancy as well. And she told me that it's safe to dye hair/ or get highlights done.

But apparently raw sushi has high contents of mercury which is dangerous to the baby. But all seafood has mercury in it. Here is an excerpt I found about seafood while pregnany:

"

The FDA advises that pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should avoid eating shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish due to high levels of mercury in these fish [1] (Table 1).
The FDA also recommends that pregnant women can safely eat an average of 12 ounces of other types of COOKED fish each week You may eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) of albacore tuna per week. Emphasis is placed on choosing a variety of fish low in mercury such as shrimp, canned light tuna, salmon, pollock, and catfish. [1].So, when choosing your two meals of fish and shellfish, you may eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) of albacore tuna per week.
If no local advisories about the safety of fish caught by family and friends are available, eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) per week of fish you catch from local waters, but don't consume any other fish during that week."[1]"

Hope this helps
