Can any teen mom tell me if this has happened to you

posted 5th Jun '12
So I wanted to do something fun with my daughter. My friend (22y.o) told me about this kind of mommy and me class you do a lot of funny cool activities with your baby. And I was so happy because there was something for each age group. But I got there was looking around and then some lady who worked there said was I there with an adult. I smiled and said no I brought my daughter. She said can you follow me I did and I guess it was the manager or boss said I couldn't be there since I wasn't an adult. And for 10 minutes we was going back a forward about this dumb ass rule I got upset and went home. Ugh anyways where can I take my daughter she is 5 months. And have any other teen moms had a similar experience?

How old are you?

I took my eldest to a mums and bubs group when I was 18, I was the youngest by a fair bit but no one gave a smurf.

thats awful! i never had that happen to me, but i was 16 when i had my oldest son and when i would take him to the dr or out to eat, the dr or waitress would talk to my mom as if she was his mother.really pissed me off.

That was messed up. I can't really think of a time something similar has happened to me. Besides the looks I get from people sometimes

A lot of places want you to be at least 18.

I get it, and you might just need to find a place where you feel more accepted.

Yes. If you're still a minor and go someplace where no one under 18 could be unaccompanied, it's their right.

But if it's not then you should be allowed to go. I took my daughter to the doctors and smurf by myself when I was 17.

omg i definitly would have made it a big deal that they were discriminating you. Did they show you any type of proof of their rules saying you had to be a certain age. Thats like saying that someone is too old to be a mom.IMO

What is the place called??? Where is it at? That is bullsmurf. I don't see why they have that rule. So teen mothers aren't allowed to bond with their child. That is stupid.

I dont see why they needed to know your age. I had my DD at 16 and never had a problem.

We have a program specifically geared toward Teen Moms [or young Mom's, I was 20 when I went in] and we have girls that are much younger coming. You should see if you have any Teen MOPS meetings. My MOPS is AMAZING

I'm 17. Turning 18 September 13. And I didn't know there rules for baby and me type classes and I even asked if they have a book or paper or poster anything saying under 18 not allowed but they brushed me off. And the 1st 3 times I took my daughter to the doctor they would speak to my mom and I said straight up I'm the mother please speak to me. From then on they spoke to me. But now I have my own car I take my daughter to every alone or me and my boyfriend.
