Breastfeeding and high school

posted 5th Jun '12
My son is due next month, and I plan on Breastfeeding. But I don't know how I'm going to balance that and school. I will be a senior and I have two off periods, so I only go to school from 7 to 12 or so. what did all of you do?

When is your lunch hour? I'd just go sit in my car and pump during lunch period..

I was lucky and got to take my daughter to school with me, so if she was hungry, I'd be called out of class. But since you can't do that, I'd suggest pumping during your two free periods. Maybe ask the school nurse if you could store your pump in her office, and maybe even your BM too. Or if I read that wrong, try pumping in between your classes in the nurse's office.

Talk to the office and get allowance for free time to pump between classes.

12. I have 3 classes and then lunch, so I just go home. most people have 3 classes, lunch, then 4th period. But that's my off period.

Have you considered mixed feeding? I would pump when I started college a couple of months after having DS, but eventually I ended up having to stay until six p.m. and was having trouble pumping so I started mix feeding with Good Start. If you're able to get out of class and pump though I highly advise doing that so you can leave milk for your baby and your breasts don't hurt too much during the day

It never bothered my son.. I was afraid to at first but my friend did it and my doctor knew but never said anything about it :S Maybe some babies can't? but it was fine with mine. I do encourage breastfeeding and pumping 100% though, I just wasn't able to continue pumping for some reason I would start to get no milk and lots of pain, so I started to mix feed.

No, but it would mess with your supply.
