Aetna Insurance (vent!!))

I am so pissed right now!! I just called my insurance to see why they haven't paid for my ultrasound that I had last month, and they said that they only pay for one per pregnancy (which was fine, because this was my 1st ultrasound) well then she puts me on hold and comes back and says that it was deemed not "medically necessary" and they aren't going to pay for it!! I said so you pay for one, but only if something is wrong with the baby, how the f*ck am I supposed to find out if something is wrong with the baby without an ultrasound you dumb bitch?!!!! She said "we don't pay just so you can find out the sex" I wanted to go thru the phone and kick her in the face!! If I only wanted one to tell me the sex, I could have waited and had the 3D ultrasound they offer at the dr. office for only $100. Anyway, it was $774.00 and I paid $150. of it as my deductible, and I am supposed to go back next month because the tech didn't get a good look at her brain and wants to check that, now I am freaking out thinking that I am going to have to pay for this crap when Aetna should be paying for it, damn insurance!!! sometimes I wonder if it is even worth having!!!!

well im sorry you have to pay for it and i would have had felt the same is there no other way you can get them to pay up?

I would have demanded to speak with a supervisor...that is just crap! Maybe you can call up there again and speak with someone in charge.

I just left a message with the Dr.'s office to see if the insurance/billing dept can resubmit it as medically necessary, so i am waiting on her to call me back. othewise, I am going to keep calling them until they decide I am a pain in their ass and just pay it!!

That's weird, I had aetna before I switched onto my husband's insurance and I was told that as long as you meet your deductable by a certain time they would pay something like 80% of everything...well except for 3D ultrasounds, because they are considered not medically necessary only the 2D ones.

yeah that is what I was told too, I paid my 20% when I had the ultrasound done, so I thought everything was fine, I'm hoping that maybe the person that submitted it at the dr's office just entered something wrong and they can resubmit it and everything will be fine, because I'd hate to go to my 24wk appt on the 22nd of this month and not be able to have the second one done. (even though I know now that I have to pay for that one out of pocket!!)

omg I totally know what you are going through....I just dropped AETNA...I had (health choiceplan 1)...it is the shittiest insurance I have ever had!!
The receptionist at my DR'S office kept saying there should be no co-pays for prenatal visits...well I had to pay some b/s $25 copay for every visit (aetna just sent me a bill in the mail)...also
I started randomly getting these bills from some lab company..turns out it is a company that partners with aetna..and they charge out the ass for any lab type stuff....(u/s, urine test, blood work)...I have paid hundreds in little bills to this company...

well it's not like they do the u/s just to find the sex...they do it to check the babies organs...i'd ask to speak to a manager because i wouldn't let them get away with that

Aetna sucks big time!! That is who my company has insurance with. I had a hard time for a while finding just a regular doctor because all these doctor's were no longer accepting Aetna because of problems they had with them.

I just called Aetna back and got a different lady (much nicer!!) and she walked me thru the website and told me to print out a form, bring it to the dr at my next visit and have them resubmit it with a different code on it, so I'm HOPING that when I go they can get it taken care of.

I agree that Aetna sucks! When I went to the dr for the first time and sat down with the insurance person, she said that the dr visits were covered under a "global" plan which meant the dr. charges $2500 for his services and I pay a copay of 20%, which was $500 so I thought, oh thats not that bad, now come to find out, that only covers the dr.Damn Aetna says that doesn't cover, ultrasounds, bloodwork, or any other lab work you will have to have. In other words that pays for the dr. to measure my belly, weigh me, and pee in a cup. wtf?!!! lol

I JUST got off the phone with Aetna and my dr's office with this same problem. I keep getting all these bills for routine blood work and urine testing, etc. I was told that under the global plan I get 100% coverage...and nowthis. So, I call Aetna and she just keeps telling me because the Dr.'s office is seding a bill...blah blah blah and it makes no sense to me what she is saying...so I call my dr's office and they basically tell me how horrible Aetna is and when they say it's 100% it's really not and we have to pay for the 18-20 week screening when I go in next month because Aetna considers it experimental. So rediculous...it will only be paid for by insurance IF they find something wrong with the baby! How horrible! UGH! Aetna is THE worst insurance company ever. They are a company of liars.

Trust me I feel your pain..Aetna sucks ass! I just went and got medicaid because at my doctors office they was doing a damn ultra sound every visit since I was 18 weeks. So imagine the bill I got...talk about angry   I wanted to choke my doctor. So needless to say I will be 26 weeks on tuesday and I have to go to a new doctor that doesn't know anything about me and start the whole drawing blood and getting a pap allover again because when I asked for a copy of my medical records it was a two week waiting period and i had to pay $1.00 per page and an additional $26.00 if I wanted them to send the records to the new doc.... so I completely understand when you talk about Aetna!
