My BD doesn't think our daughter needs to go to private scho

posted 3rd Jun '12
Leslie is graduating from elementary school next year so the next step in her education is enrolling her in a private middle school. My sperm donor doesn't think its necessary. Is he smurfing insane? Everyone in my family went to a private school so I'm not breaking the tradition now. We still have a year to save up for this so what's the big deal? I don't like public schools and don't want my girls going to any..

No offense to public schoolers. It's not the child's fault the schools are dirty with inept teachers.

So does the school that you plan to send her to require different qualifications then public school for their teachers?

Not all of them are. Depends on the area you live in. I don't think you should expect him to contribute, though, since it is a luxury.

But she's been in public school with no problems now? So her education up to this point has been below par? I'm just not getting the logic here.

He had his say, so you really can't expect him to contribute.

Meh, I don't think he's "smurfing insane" to think public school is fine just because your family happens to have a tradition. Sucks you guys don't agree on the child's education but I'm sure there could be a compromise if both of you are willing to actually listen to each other. Or you could just pay for the whole thing yourself so it doesn't matter to him.

I don't blame your bd- why should he have to help you pay for a private school just because it is a "tradition" in your family? That is not fair to him, when she could get an equal education in a free public school.

I think it does. I want them to have one on one learning like I had and private schools excel at that, in my area at least.

If you want to send the child to private school, then you alone should have to pay for it.

I think you are insane to think it is necessary and to do it based on tradition. There are PLENTY of excellent public schools. There are some awful ones as well. I would never send my children to a school in a Bario of Phoenix either. HOWEVER, I wouldn't live in an area with a terrible school system. When we purchase our homes it is based on the school district where my children will attend.

Perhaps you should reapproach the situation in a different manner rather than it being a must and get him to at least check out the school.

Also, from the sounds of it she isn't in private school now. If it was that important, she would have been in private school from the start!
