Contractions VS. Braxton Hicks Contractions

posted 2nd Jun '12
What's the difference as far as they feel? I don't remember having any with my son but my mother in law thinks that's what has been going on with me, I have had PTL twice during this pregnancy but she swears that I'm making it up so to kind of shut her up I wanted to see what you guys say the difference is. ( yes my dr told me I was in fact having PTL and having real contractions but she doesn't believe he really said that.) That and I wanted to know my self I mean maybe I am just over reacting, I've had three contractions today and while they aren't close together (four hours apart at this point) they really hurt and feel like what I was having before only not nearly as painful.

So what's the difference as far as how they feel and what not?

Real contractions are alot stronger and more painful. You'll know when your having them. For me, it felt like someone was squeezing all of my insides and twisting. They literally took my breath away.

They kind of feel the same, but real contractions will get stronger, BH contractions often go away when you change position or get up and walk around a minute.

See and that's what the other ones felt like, these are nothing really bad. They are just more irritating than anything. So these would most likely BHC?

I didn't have BH but my contractions felt like a really bad backache that came and went. But really if you've had ptl twice, your doctor said they were contractions, and you feel like they're contractions who cares what your mil thinks?

Well, if they are nothing too bad then they probably are BHC. REAL ones are almost unbearable.

There was no difference for me. Except when I went into labor ( multiple times, ugh ptl) it felt like an ax was in my back, along with the normal contractions in my stomach.

BH were when my bump got hard and it felt like it was being squeezed super tight and LO was trying to escape through my belly button. They intensified abit through pregnancy, but not very much. I don't think they were ever close together, like several one after the other. They were sporadic.

Real contractions - i had back labour and felt like i was being stabbed in the back with a hot poker. They were frequent, and in active labour got closer together and worse.

Because I don't like being told that I'm faking it for the attention. It really pisses me off.

That's what I figured, I remember with my son they were so bad it brought me to tears and I have a really high pain tolerance.

Yup got to love it T_T my back was killing me too when I had them before, it felt like I pulled a muscle or something it was weird.
