Sex after baby
posted 2nd Jun '12
According to my doctor you should wait 3-4 weeks pp to have sex. But other people say 6 weeks??
I had 2nd degree tears and feel fine other than the muscles around my vagina being sore.
Should I try?

I waited 7 weeks. I was terrified.

Waiting till your 6 week checkup is pretty standard. That way they can make sure you're healing properly and you can get bc since you're really fertile after having a baby.

The reason they say to wait is because where your placenta tore away from you uterus is like an open sore so anything going up there can cause major infection. I would wait till you go to your pp check

I don't understand why he said that then? It was even on my discharge papers.

with my first I waited 3or4 months before having sex again I was terrified and too tired. this time around well I don't feel like I just had a baby. I m not tired at all and I m really horny. I saw my health visitor a week PP she told us as long as I m feeling fine and we re using condoms we can have as much sex as we want.

Supposedly it only takes 2 weeks to heal but they say 3-4 just to make sure.
6 weeks has just always been said so they stick to that.
Idk, I have my pp appt tuesday.

My dr. and hospital nursing staff told us to wait atleast 4 weeks, to make sure everything was fully healed. We only waited until I stopped bleeding at 3 weeks and tried, but it was horrible and we didn't really try again until 6 weeks. I was also told that the only reason they ask you wait to the 6 week check-up, is so that they can make sure you have some plan of birth control. They told me that it causes a lot of stress on the body to have simultaneous pregnancies, and they want to make sure your body has healed before you resuming pro-creating. So, they badger you at the hospital and at PP appts. about birth control for that reason as well.

I understand that. But I plan on taking pills which take a month to start working so does that mean I should wait 10 weeks?
I plan on using a condom.
