Preterm labor at 20 wks :(

Doctor confirmed today that it's true and that my cervix is soft but is not open or closed. I have to have an ultra sound Monday morning to check the length of my cervix and to see if it is funneling.

Oh and to top it all off, a marker showed up on the US done last week that has been linked to trisomy 18 but since my quad screen came up so negative, it could be nothing...but still Ugh.

If it's not open or closed what is it?

If it's not open, it's closed... and if it's not closed, it's open. There's not really another option on that. Lol.

doy ou mean you're effaced but not dilated?

i went into L&D for heavy bleeding at 30 weeks and i was 50% effaced but wasnt dilated. my cervix hasnt funneled but its shortened to 1.6

im almost term, so good luck, hopefully that baby will stay in for awhile longer

That's what doc said, it's not open but not closed either, so yes not dialated or enough to measure. He told me to take it easy until the US to measure the cervix and if it comes back what he thinks then yes bedrest for 20 fricken weeks.

Had the US Monday morning and just now finally heard back from the drs office (only because I called) the nurse said that my cervix if long and not funneling so I am fine. She asked if anything has changed and I told her no, I am still contracting and hurting and she said "well, I guess that's just how your going to be then". And BTW I was paying close attention at my US and saw the measurements they took and my cervix is 3.1 which is not long from what I have researched, but it's not at a "scary" stage either. IDK what to do, I am worried because of what I do for a living, but can't really stop since I need the insurance.

3.1 Is a good length. it sounds like maybe you have irritable uterus syndrome, I think that's what its called anyway

Sometimes I wonder that too but it happens when I'm resting and when my bladder is empty, so it concerns me. My other 3 pregnancies this has happened but I was further along than 20 weeks, it was past 30.

can i ask you what kind of marker showed up. cause im going through the same thing and i go on monday for a level 2 ultrasound and im really hoping everything is fine

It was a bright spot on the heart, basically a calcium deposit on the left ventrical. The tech didn't say a word to me at the US but the next ob appt the dr told me. Dr said he isn't worried, but is offering me another US in the third trimester to see if it goes away. So we shall see. Good luck with yours.
