Fetal doppler?

posted 1st Jun '12
Would you suggest getting one? Of course not yet, but by like the 10th week or so? SO's baby sister was stillborn at 34 weeks last year and since then he's been worried about when we have a baby, loosing it without notice; because it happened to his mom. What are some good brands?

I personally wouldn't suggest it unless you know what you're doing. A) women think they can't find a heartbeat, freak out and run to the ER which is a total waste when they just didn't know what they were doing and B) women get concerned when they don't feel movement and check for the heartbeat and end up getting their own so they think everything is fine and don't call a doc when they should've.

I mean, a lot of women use them for peace of mind or fun etc., but I never had one with any of my pregnancies, and honestly if you get to the point where you honestly can't find a heart beat you're kind of in trouble anyway (to be honest), so....IDK... It just seems like a lot of stressing, unless you just want it for fun once in a while.

I use the contec sonogram B pocket fetal doppler. it works better around your 12th week but it also depends on where the baby is at. mine is used & works great

Doctors do not recommend you have one at home because a lot of women will freak themselves out. (And you've been doing that already!) It'll probably stress you out more than it'll help.
