Absolutely Disgusted

A family friends daughter had her baby 3 mths ago. While she was pregnant she continued to do drugs mainly weed and Speed. Her baby was born at 38 weeks and was a mere 2pounds. The baby now 3 mths now and only weights 5 pound.
The thing that angers me the most about this whole situation is that she has been in the phyciatric (sp?) ward 3 times due to drug phycosis and still continues to do it, She recently went back in for the 4th time while her baby was only 1 1/2 mths old and came out 3 weeks after. She is still doing the drugs.
Sorry i needed to get it off my chest its been bothering me ever since i found this out.
I was told the baby was born at 5pound but was obviously misinformed.

How sad, that really is terrible! I hope and pray that the baby is taken care of now.

Does Australia not have any laws to help protect her child and to get him/her out of that situation?? I mean obviously the mother is not capable of raising the child in a healthy manner.

I think that if I were her family I would be for trying to get her child away from her. That's ridiculous that she's allowed to keep her child with what she did while she was pregnant and now what she's doing after the child was born.

Things like this make me angry.

Smoking pot during pregnancy is one thing..but speed?! Jesus. No wonder that poor baby had such a low birth weight.  

I always did downers before I conceieved. For some reason I thought it was necessary to quit, so I did, and then I missed my period, took a test, and learned I had a little one on the way!   I've only got four months sober but it really isn't that big a deal..I was never addicted to anything. It wasn't hard to stop, the only problem I had was forgetting what it was like to face reality. I was an idiot..and I hope that your friend's daughter sees the error of her ways. =/ It makes me so sad to see mothers so careless with their children.

thats so sad! Poor little baby! I hope she stays sober. Just gotta take it one day at a time.

The problem is she is no going to stay sober, she is going to continue to do it no matter what, her husband/babys father also does it.
I didnt think it was possible to have a baby of that low birth weight at term, then the stupid bitch has the nerve to go around saying her baby is a premmie so no wonder its so small , Sorry mate but 2 weeks early isnt exactly considered premmie, plus my son was freaking 3 weeks early and was 8 pound 61/2..

i understand what you mean, i didnt think it was true, but i have seen her babys record book and it says 2 pound..

Well, even if the baby wasn't that small at birth this story is still ridiculous. I don't understand how someone could do that to their unborn child.

Did the hospital not take the child after it was born so small and on drugs?

This really makes me sad.. I've known so many people like this... It's gotten to a point where I'm not surprised anymore at these type of situations. It makes me sick. =[

If she's messed up on speed, is it not possible that she wrote it down wrong?

I'm not trying to mitigate using speed during a pregnancy, but I'm looking and I've never heard of a child that small at birth (and term, not premature) even from drug use.

I'd buy 5lbs, but 2lbs just doesn't seem even possible, to me.

I'm willing to grant that I could be mistaken.
