PP Weight Loss & Breastfeeding

posted 4th May
I'm FAT!!!! Everywhere I've read says that breastfeeding is supposed to help you lose weight and the only weight I lost was the the initial amount right after I had the baby. I'm only 5'1 and weighed 165 right before I had the baby and went down to 150 a week later and have stayed there. My baby is 11 weeks old tommorrow! I was 110 before I got pregnant. Does anyone have any advice they can give me about losing weight? I feel sooooo fat. I'm still wearing my pregnancy clothes. It's so depressing   What have been your experiences?

it took you 9 months to gain the weight, it might take at least 9 to lose it! Personally I lost the weight in about 3 weeks, but not everyone is like that. Don't be discouraged!

I completely understand how you feel. I have always been skinny in my life. Then I had two pregnancies back to back and such.

Try counting calories. I think it really helps to know how much you are really taking in. IF you are not BFing still. If you are not BFing try to stay at around 1600-1800 cal a day no more. Try working out, weather it's just a walk around the block or something bigger. Anything helps. Are you drinking lots of water? Try to keep to just drinking water and if you have to diet soda ONLY. You don't need empty calories.

I thought that it would all just slide off too... however, I'm 3 weeks PP and still have some extra weight that I'm not liking too much.

One thing to keep in mind is that since you're breastfeeding, your milk will add to your weight.

I'm going to start doing some sit ups and some leg lifts... my stomach and thighs seem to be my "problem" areas that are preventing me from being able to wear my pre-pregnancy clothes and feel comfortable in them.

I weighed just about the same as you when I had my little girl and before getting pregnant as well... I know how you feel about wanting to get back into your old clothes.

I hope you find something that helps you.

I thought breastfeeding would help me lose the weight too. But it didn't. I suppose it doesn't work for everyone.

Are you eating healthier? I've gained way too much weight while prregnant...I'm 36 weeks and after I have the baby I'm going to be eating salad with grilled chicken on top everyday until I'm back down to my normal size (113 lbs) and doing pilates... and cardio for my abs and arms...

Some people that have babies lose the weight so fast without doing anything and then you have those other people that actually have to diet and exercise to get it off... It sucks, but I'll def. be one of those people that has to work at it...

Well; I lost 40 lbs.... I only breastfed for two months because i couldnt produce enough to keep up with her =[
I think that the breast feeding helped that along though; I was 10 lbs away from my pre preggy size until I got on the shot and gained 20 of that back =[
My doc put me on slim quick because I'm hypoglycemic now and she doesn't want me to gain too much
I stopped taking it a few weeks ago though and just started watching what I eat a little more and lost 5 lbs already; I decided to be happy with my weight though(I just wish my stomach was semi-flat again)

I'm in your boat!! Stuck at 145lbs after 2 months PP. I have 20lbs. to lose to get back to "normal". Apparently it's "9 months ON, 9 months OFF" for me too. So much for cute skimpy summer clothes. Um, maternity jeans are totally sexy... right? ;)

BFing alone for me didn't work either. I ate 2000 calories per day and exercised 5 times per week, and lost it all (50 lbs) by 4 months PP. It's not easy, but if you're determined you can do it!
