re: Any TTC'ers with thyroid problems?

It only takes 2 full weeks to have the new dose "register" in your system. I think 4 months is waaaay too long to wait to be retested. I say 6 weeks at the most.

Quoting MB Maphia M-dizzle: Ugh. They called back. My levels went up from 3.1 in March to 3.5....they had told me I didn't need to ... [snip!] ... that sound right? Also what didyour doctors say is the range you need to be in in order to conceive/have a healthy pregnancy
Before I was preggo...my dr checked my levels every 6 weeks

I was wondering... I had my daughter in April 2005, easy-normal-healthy pregnancy. In December I miscarried at 14 weeks. I have severe anxiety and I know that doesn't mean I necessarily have a thyroid problem, but I did wonder that. Now, my questions are: Would it cause a m.c? Also, did I read that it is hard to carry a baby w. a thyriod prob. Lastly! If I did have one, how would I know? Are you tested SPECIFICALLY or does it show in bloodwork? I had a d/c after my m.c and they ran plenty test but I am not sure what specifically. Please help! It's been almost 5 months since my m/c and non-stop trying. I am getting very discouraged and more depressed as time passes.

You have to be specifically tested for it. If you go to your GP and explain your symptoms..........specifically ask for a thyroid test. Best to get a thyroid panel: T4, TSH, Free T4 by ed, Thyroid antibodies....etc.... That will give the big picture on how your thyroid is functioning.
My hypothyroid wasn't diagnosed until a year after my miscarriage. Mostly I just thought I wad depressed and hopeless. I didn't go to the doctor until one day my period started and it didn't stop until 10 months later. Hypothyroid does wonky things to your girly parts.
An underactive thyroid can cause a miscarriage but there's no way to know now if that's what caused yours ((hugs))

Thank you! I am making an appointment 1st thing tomarrow morning. Did they tell you you would be unable to have children? Or have you had any luck? Also, is the thyriod stuff (sorry as you know I'm dumb to it) is it deadly?

I thought 4 months was waaaaay too long also. Did all of you have thyroid scans to see what was wrong or just blood test? My dr said before he didn't think a scan was necessary so he just started prescribing levothyroxin for me. Don't you think he should look in to why I"m having thyroid problems?

Thyroid problems among women are pretty common. I've never been offered a scan. My doc does palpate my thyroid...as they can develop nodes. I think when they palpate something abnormal on your thyroid is when they might get concerned enough to do a scan.
To my knowlege, if well managed it's not deadly. And I think hyPERthyroidism is harder on the body long term if not treated.
As for my ability to conceive and carry to term is yet to be seen but I've always been told I should be able to "being a healthy young woman" blah blah blah.
I'm going to give a full year of active trying before pursuing more aggressive methods.
MB-You should demand a sooner follow-up. With me, it has taken 1 1/2 years of changing meds and bloodwork every 6 weeks just to get me here.....and I go back first week of June to see where I am at with the 100mcg of levo and 10mcg of cytomel. I still don't know if I'm within normal limits but at least I'm ovulating!!!

If you can't already tell I'm a definate worry wort. I panic a the snap of a finger. So to bug you again, lol, I wanted to add I have never had any sort of problem concieving. Each time there was a woopsie there was a pregnancy...so...this time around we've done and ACTIVE 4 months of trying but in all honesty I think I may have been off on days a couple months out of the 4, so maybe I'm just freaking out. But the doctor told you that you should be able to concieve and carry? I know I have to schedule an appt. right away but I think my insomnia of worrying is kicking in and I'm trying to weed out a bunch of factors! Haha, ok it's bedtime.

Hi there... i think its best to have your thyroid levels checked just to make sure that thats not the problem. This is my first month trying so i really can't offer up any advice about conceiving..but i most def know that thyroid problems can make it harder to get pregnant. Best of luck to you & lots of baby dust!!!

Good luck! I had nodules and a biopsy done when I was 19, and ended up okay...although I chose to have Radioactive Iodine therapy ( radiation for thyroid) at the time...not because I had cancer , but because I have Graves' and my levels were all over the map from month to month..It took a while to level out, but I had years of no problems...I just recently started having issues again ( they may not have given me enough RAI to completely destroy my thyroid hormone production)..but all in all, it's not a death sentence..just something we work through. Be strong and be positive...
If you do need surgery or RAI, I'm here to support ya!

I've heard of Graves but not sure what it is....
Tomorrow I make an appt to find out my test results.
