How did the casting go for your child and did you see results after the first casting or did it take a little longer to see results?
My son is getting his second casting done this week and I was wondering what I should expect & to learn a little more about club foot.

Thank you   that makes me feel better about my son having this done. I can't wait to see how his foot looks once he gets the first cast off before they put his second cast on.

I wouldn't get your hopes up to see a big difference with the first casting. My son (who is now 14 months old) was born with club feet and it took somewhere around 5 or 6 casts, I beleive, to get his left foot corrected. We weren't able to correct his right foot but he had other issues in that foot aside from the club foot that prevented that so I wouldn't worry about it.

My son got his first cast at almost two weeks old and got a new one every week and, while it was a pain in the butt sometimes, it was definetly worth it because you can't even tell there was ever anything wrong with his left foot now.

I will tell you to pay very close attention with each casting though because we had an issue with one of our sons casts rubbing his ankle very badly. When we took off the cast his ankle had a decently sized wound on it and his entire foot was swollen and red. He had showed no signs of even being mildly uncomfortable that week but it was bad enough that we rushed him to the ER not even five minutes later. This RARELY happens but I would still suggest that you watch out for any unusual and/or cranky behavior, just in case. Keep in mind, it's alot easier to replace a cast than a foot.

We saw a huge difference in his foot this time. The nurse couldn't even tell which foot had the cast done.

That's great! I'm glad to hear that! Your boy must have a less severe case than mine did. I hope the rest goes just as smoothly!

Did your son's doctor do the scale? My son scored a 12 at the first appointment & after his first casting he went down to a 9.

No, we didn't do any scales.

My daughter was born with bilateral club feet. She had her first castings done at about a month old and after the first cast we seen a little bit of improvement and thereafter the 9 or 10 casting the "dr." we were seeing in Wichita, Ks decided that she was ready for the tendonotomy (tendon lengthening which is they cut the archilles tendon and cast the foot/feet in the upright position) and we seen some improvement after that also...it just takes time. If you live in wichita and see "Dr. Michelle Klaumann" I would advise you to switch dr. there is a great orthopedic dr. in Eldorado that we see now...I would recommend him to anyone! Send me a email if you live in wichita and currently see "Dr. Klaumann" and I will explain as to why I would not advise anyone to see her... JJoliene.67213@gmail.com
