Buying things for baby - too early?

posted 30th May '12
When did you start buying "big" things for baby, aka more than just clothes (pack n play, swing, bouncy seat, etc)? Did you start when you found out the sex? Did you wait longer?

With DD, we had a shower, so we waited until after the shower.
With DS, until we had the money, but we had everything by 36 weeks.

Hm. I pretty much got all my big things at my baby shower which was like, 3 weeks before LO made an appearance. This time, i have everything, but i think you should just buy it when you have the money for it, who cares how far along you are!

When I was pregnant the first time, I had purchased the carseat and the stroller before week 10, lol. Now that I'm jaded, I probably won't purchase anything until after my next baby is already born.

As soon as you can! With large purchases it is best to spread them out between the months so that you don't need to buy them all at once.... besides, there are some of the big things that you don't need to know the sex to buy... like the pack and play and bouncers and things all come in beige and or black (IMO they look better than the pink and blue and are MUCH easier to hand down for siblings or resale!)

because it sucks ass to have a nursery half done or things bought and to lose your child. It's worsehaving the baby things sitting around knowing you won't havea baby to put in them.
Just my thoughts

I found out I was pregnant in August and put her crib on layaway in September. I started buying stuff as early as October. I was seeing a perinatal because I was high risk, and they told me at like 14-15 weeks that she was a girl, so I bought a black and pink travel system knowing that we were going back for an anatomy scan at 20 weeks and would confirm gender and then she was still a girl. Lol.

Not everyonedoes my first died at 20 weeks gestation. I didn'thave big itemsyet but I hada LOT of babygirlthings...and it killed packing them away knowing she'd never use them.
with my son I didn't buy anything til 7 months pregnant.. and it was only cause I was going into ptl so frequently I figured I'd need things eventually lol.
