I feel like we arent getting anywhere

Leigh Philip was born on march 19th at 27 weeks 5 days, was 2 pound 5 when born. Hes now 34 weeks 2 days and weighs just under 5 pound. We are 3 hours from home and I just want to get him back. He is still on cpap and has feeding tube in. Hows long was everyone else in NICU for?

My friend had her baby at five months, and I believe her little girl got to go home after about 6 months. They were worried about complications and things during the first few months at home, but that baby is just as normal as any full term baby!

If it makes you feel any better, here is a picture of Beau (the baby) and I taken back in February. She's extremely healthy/happy and you can tell! lol

what are they saying as far as how it looks? that sounds good, he is not intubated anymore! thats a positive! hang in there. i have never been thru this so i can't help you there. but just try and stay positive momma. i just couldn't imagine how hard it can be though.

Hey mama, ive just written a (rather huge) post going through the main things in our nicu journey which may be of use/interest (or may just be incredibly boring and tedious to read lol). My son was born at 878g, so about 1lb 14oz.

It sounds like your lil man is doing great! I had my worst time through 5 to 7 weeks, i think thats when it all finally hit me too. Being 5lbs at 34-35 weeks gestation is really great, sounds like hes growing just as if he were in the womb and it gives him an advantage. he will be much stronger and more resistant than you think! Also, having been a 27, almost 28 weeker it sounds totally normal that he is on cpap at this stage. Remember than some babies born at 34 weeks who havent been through anything you guys have, still have to be on cpap for a little while.

Random question, but are they still leaving his ng tube in all the time with the nasal cpap or does the tube go down his mouth? Is he sucking on a paci or taking any oral feeds? The move from cpap to nasal canula is usually a relatively quick one, so im sure within the week he will be on canula. At this point they are usually able to take more and more oral feeds. I know its hard, i travelled 130k each day on public transport to my lil one for months, but from the sounds of things you will be home very soon. Just remember he should still be in ur belly, so hes doing a good job! I bet in a couple of weeks time you will be posting that you are home!!

I very sorry your baby is still in the NICU. My daughter was born March 18 at 28 weeks she was only on her cpap for 2 and a half weeks her feeding tune stayed in until she turned 32 weeks then she started being bottle feed. She was in the NICU for 6 weeks in total. I am very glad to say that she was discharged friday night. Don't worry momma everything will get better just have faith in God! My daughter was 2 lbs 10.7 ounces now she is 5lbs and some change. Girls do mature faster than boys but no worries I will pray for you little one. Watch sooner or later he will be home with you. Your little one will get better, watch sooner or later he will be off the cpap and she will be on the nasal cannula, my daughter had to come on oxygen and on an apnea machine. She hasn't really had any dsats only when she eats but not all the time. But i have faith she will be off of it soon.

My daughter was also born at 27 weeks, 5 days. She was in the NICU for 2 months... the first month was all about her lungs (she was intubated for 5 days, then on CPAP for 5 days, then on nasal cannula for 2 and a half weeks.... she went off-and-on the cannula several times until she proved she could really breathe all on her own. She even spent a day getting oxygen pumped directly into her isolette!).The second month was all about getting her to bottle-feed. It took so long I never thought she was going to have the stamina to do it LOL. When she was released she weighed 5 pounds even (from a starting weight of 2 pounds, 1 ounce). Now she is a little piggy who loves her bottles!
