Things to avoid while pregnant?
posted 3rd May
Since I have been pregnant, friends and family have been telling me all kinds of stories; what to do what not to do, etc. Maybe someone can help me clear my head cus they make me feel bad. For instance, my stepmom said that I shouldve started prenatals even before I concieved. I barely started taking them last week, becus I eat VERY healthy already and didnt think I needed to start them right away. Next, my cousin told me to avoid eating tuna due to the mercury content (I was eating a tuna sandwhich when she told me this on the phone, make me feel awful), and to stay away from herbal teas, and foods that have dyes in them. Im a major tea drinker, so this is very hard. So right now, I am a little worried that I messed up, but my mom said she never took her vitamins, ate tuna, and drank tea... so if anyone can help me, please do! Thanks!!!!

You'll be just fine. They slap a damn warning on everything these days-it makes me wonder how the human race ever managed to survive before there were all these warnings.

I ate tuna til I found out I was pregnant I think your sitll allowed 12oz a week, I dont drink tea because of the caffiene in it, which you aren't supposed to have much of while pregnant either. The prenatal vitamins are supposed to be very important in the first trimester because that is when all of the major organs start to form

The more you read into it, you'll find reasons not to eat anything.. so just try to be healthy, most anything is okay in moderation I have found.. Any of these paranoias I have asked my doctor about, he just laughs and says as long as I'm eating healthy and not some enormous amount of these 'bad things' I'm fine. Yeah, its good to take prenatals before you conceive...but it just doesn't work al lthe time.. I starting taking mine as soon as I found out--but theres not a need to stress about it now.. whats done is done! and stress isn't good anyway

you can ask your doctor if any of the stuff you listed will negatively effect the baby but i think you are fine...they say to take prenatals to get your body good and strong and what not which is why you continue taking them while you breastfeed..and my doc said that when i plan on having my next to take some prenatals b4 i get preggo...
i dont know about the tuna issue??
and i am an avid tea drinker...i am 36 weeks and me and my baby are perfectly healthy so far..so dont let people make you feel like you arent taking care of yourself and the baby....diff doctors will even have diff views on what to do and what not to do.

Learn to IGNORE EVERYBODY except your doctor. You will get soooo much unsolicited advice, its not even funny. There are a few things to avoid - like aspirin, raw meat, etc....but anything else is really not going to be a major concern. My doctors sent me home from my first visit with a list of things to avoid, and I loosely follow it.
As long as you're taking your pre-natals now, you're fine. Good luck to you!

Basically, it's just necessary to eat healthy. The stuff that you're "not supposed to eat" are just things you aren't supposed to eat constantly. Regardless of whether or not you take vitamins, the baby is going to get what it needs from you. That's why it's so important to take them, so that when your baby is born, your teeth aren't left rotten, you aren't suffering from malnutrition, etc etc.
Don't let anyone make you feel bad for eating what you do. I'm willing to bet that some of the people who tell you things actually haven't had children of their own, and for some reason those people STILL think they know it all. But no one actually knows it all! That's the beauty of it! The baby does it's thing while you do yours. All that you really need to take into consideration is moderation. I'm not encouraging you to drink an occasional beer, but a tuna sandwich or cup of tea every now and then isn't going to hurt your baby.

Lol when I first found out I was pregnant and I was worried about anything and everything she was like if you believe everything everyone says you will end up in a plastic bubble sitting there your entire pregancy too scared to move

i eat tuna and other fish, fish is really good for you and has lots of vitimans that you need, you're just not supposed to eat it more than twice a week and tuna once a week. and the tea when i first got pregnant i drank coffee every morning so i cut back to tea and then eventually stoped drinking it, but still have a glass of soda everyonce in awhile. and the prenatals most people dont even know thy are preggo atfirst so you should be fine just take them now.

The thing about tuna yes it has mercury in it but if you ask your doctor one tuna fish sandwhich won't hurt you. You are allowed Fish once a week (so long as you advoid shark, sushi with raw fish) they say if you're gonna eat tuna the best kind to get is wild tuna though. So enjoy your sandwhich and tell everyone to stop giving you advice you'll get it all from your doctor

Don't worry mama!! I didn't start my prenatal vitamins until 13 weeks. I really didn't know I was pregnant for quite some time though, but my daughter is growing and developing just fine, as long as you are taking them now, that's all that matters. And the tea issue, that is pretty much all i drink! I just make sure to get decaffenated. You and baby will be fine, unless your doc tells you not to do something, don't listen to everybody, according to the world, pregnant people should probably just hibernate and and never leave the couch cause anything could happen!!!
