I realise this is a stupid question...

posted 28th May '12
I'm 4 months PP and haven't had a period yet. I BF at night and FF during the day (if it makes a difference).. we had sex about a week ago unprotected, and while I realise it is possible, how likely is it that I could be pregnant? I don't know if I've ovulated, so if I don't get a period by next month should I test anyway just to be sure?
Don't hate on me for being ignorant when it comes to this!

If you have unprotected sex, you can very well get pregnant.

I would test.
Yes you can get preggo, especially if you are only breast feeding at night. Doctors say that you should still be taking birth control even if you are exclusively breast feeding.

Honestly it could be very likely for you to be pregnant.Breastfeeding really only works as a form of birth control if you exclusively breastfeed with no supplementing with formula, but even then you should use back up like the mini pill or condoms unless you want to get pregnant right away. I would wait 1 more week and take a test.

I'm so smurfing stupid!! I thought about it before and everything but just presumed that because I haven't had a period that I would be fine.   I'm just hoping because it took me so long to get pregnant with DD that I'm not. Smurf

You are said to be extra fertile after child birth. Many people who took years to conceive their first are able to get pregnant easy with their second.
You're not stupid, its not really something you would know automatically.
I would just take a test, and if its negative go get some birth control or condoms or something.

I didn't have a period for over a year due to breastfeeding., had protected sex, and got pregnant with my second.

I did! Didn't have a single period before I was pregnant with baby no. 3 and I was exclusively breastfeeding-theres only 17 months between the 2 of them.

Not stupid, just had a careless moment. It happens to the best of us. But atleast now you know that it is possible and to be extra careful.
