Question, how many languages do you girls speak (those involved in this debate and why did you choose to learn it)?

English- because I am an American
some Spanish- because i started my speaking life in Cuba with cuban nannies
some Tagalog- because I lived in the Philippenes and I was a kid, kids learn language fast. Plus my nannies there spoke to me in both English and Tagalog
some French- because I took it in high school
and Ancient Greek- because I thought it would be cool to learn ancient greek in college to read the original text of certain plays and of the bible.


In Georgia, did you know that there is actually a law that says that in nail and hair establishments that they MUST speak English....
Its true.... Now of course most of the places don't adhere to that rule, but its a rule and the cosmetology board can be contacted and a complaint filed if they don't.
I learned that back when I was in beauty school  

And I don't particularly care to push 1 for English.... After all... this is the United States, and any propserous entrepeneur here will tell you that English is the language of prosperity here. If you don't speak fair English, you are not likely to succeed in the states....

Most people don't give a crap if its there, they also wouldn't give a crap if it was gone. Ummmmm, what exactly are you trying to argue?

Edited to add: Even people that don't like pressing 1 for English aren't arguing about the fact that they have to push a button, they are arguing the fact that this is America, so everybody should speak English. Thats the whole point of the debate, not the simple act of lifting of finger.

How is it personally attacking you? Isn't that all complaining is... making an observation, talking about it, and doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it?

What arguement? This is a debate.

Why is it only Spanish speakers we go the extra mile for? Bringing up a point again brought up earlier, if we accomidate SOME, then we need to accomidate all. There are a lot more immigrants here in the US other then hispanics. (Or maybe the others just bother to learn the language.)

I think its a matter of population. The Hispanic population in the US far outweighs the population of other foreign language speaking immigrants. Therefore, there is more of a need for Spanish to be spoken in this country. If we were a country full of Germans, I think the argument would be the same.
