Worried

When LO is outside, he will walk in a certain "track" , the same one over and over, looking all over , and sometimes like, with his mouth open like he is surprised? Sometimes he will literally do this for 2 hours, the same track, over and over. I'm worried he may be on the spectrum. However he has no other signs. He is in speech therapy due to him not hearing well as an infant due to fluid in his ears but i dont know. advice? suggestions?

Hmmm how old is he? My little sister who is now 20 is autistic and I can tell you repetitious behavior like that is a sign, however I am not sure how is hearing may or not not affect certain behaviors. I would definitely bring it up to his pedi though.

Some kids just have a few quirky behaviors. If that's the only sign he displays, I'd just brush it off.

What concerns me is the amount of time you say he is doing it more than what he is doing. 2 hours to do that over and over again is such a long time.

I worked as an ECE teacher for awhile and I've seen a lot of repetitive behavior in children. None were on the spectrum. Some children do that kind of stuff. Just like lining things up is a sign of Autism. So many kids I worked with did that too.

Just walking a path doesn't mean anything, even if he spends quite a long time doing it. One repetitive behavior doesn't mean asd if everything else is completely on track, or as close as expected with hearing problems.

I'll be honest-my son did/does this constantly and he has ASD....but it could just be sensory issues, as him avoiding sensory overload by controlling his viewpoints. I remember distinctively being at a pig roast and my SO and I taking turns following my son(then 18 months) around for 4.5 hours straight, he would walk the perimeter (always the perimeter with him, still). He even scooted under a gate and touched an electric fence (not on high) got zapped, jerked a few times and still kept going. I wouldn't peg it as behavior known for Autism, but it is peculiar.
