disallowing my child to hang with certain children

posted 27th May '12
i have a friend, she graduated last year, that has a 2 year old daughter. she has issues, i think she's autistic or something like that, don't know for sure. anyways, she came over today for our daughters to play and her daughter just started hitting my child for no smurfing reason and screaming for nothing. what the smurf? it scared me and my daughter so i made her leave. i won't be inviting her over anymore. my daughter likes the girl but if she's gonna be beaten for hanging out with her then that friendship stops here.

and its never happened before. she use to cry randomly for nothing but she never hit syn.

I hope you never have a special needs child. You'd be doing a disservice to them.

So, you are saying that you won't let her play with children that are special needs and might have an outburst? Way to go.

She's 2......it's normal behavior for a 2 yr old to scream and hit if they want something or are upset about something. That's where we as parents step in and redirect and teach them that is wrong.

If you are serious about thinking this child may be special needs, that means you need even more patience with the child.

Not just ditch a friendship because of a tantrum. That's pretty low imo.

I understand your concern for your child, but seriously. An autstic child doesn't know any better. Maybe at the age they are at you could wait to do play dates. Cutting them out of your life is unfair to both children.

i don't want my kid to be hit. she was hitting her in her head for no reason and i know there wasn't a reason because I was watching them. she took a toy, threw it across the room and then started hitting her. her mom couldn't calm her down and syn was upset. my child is my main and only concern.

This. Seems like bullsmurf.

Besides, she's 2. Try to teach her what she did was wrong, not freak out and never allow her over again.

I'm not surprised based on who OP is.

OP- you're not opposed to starting a fght with your SO, but if a child throws a tantrum you don't want them around. Does this mean you shouldn't be around your child since you throw tantrum, with her in your arms?

Honestly you probably should have gotten more information about the childs special needs, So you could have known ahead of time if this behavior was possible.
