Info regarding breastfeeding and vitamins

posted 3rd May
Someone asked yesterday about maternity vitamins having DHA/ARA in them ... they do not , but during breastfeeding DHA is naturally occuring in breastmilk , so you don't need the extra -

So yep you could switch from those $60 vitamins to the $10 walmart brand and not worry !

(sorry didn't know where to stick this and couldn't find the original post asking about it , plus I wanted to get rid of the WARNING blah blah posts in all the stinking forums   )

Pretty common for docs to suggest using the same ones , mine told me the same thing
I just wanted to let the OP know why you didn't need a vitamin with DHA in them !

It's the same thing at those Omega 3 Fatty Acids, it wasn't recommended when I had my son 10 yrs ago, but they recommend it now. I tried taking several different ones with it in them, they upset my stomach big time!! I had really bad diahrea (sp), so I quit taking them. None of the other upset my stomach, I figured my son was fine without it, so this baby will be too! I take the walmart prenatals also.

The resources section is the perfect spot for a post like this, actually.

Thanks, OP.

I've been taking Nature Made Prenatals with a side order of Nature Made Flax Oil...It's much less expensive than the ones they prescribe, much more tolerable, and my doc read over the labels for both and said the ones I have are as good if not better...You can get them at Target...Maybe Walmart, but I'm not sure...

Wal-Mart does have them. Many Omega-3 supplements are fish oil, which tastes nasty when burped (unless you get the enteric coated capsules) and is known to cause bad diarrhea.

I take the cheapy Stuart prenatal vitamins and I've had two perfectly healthy babies.
