At first it will be a huge change in diet and exercise. People I know who were diagnosed with diabetes completely changed their eating and physical activity and now are in the best shape of their lives, just upset they didnt do the life style change earlier.

There is loads if diabetes info on the net.

Yeah thought there would be but dont wanna scare myself haha. Im not overweight and i exercise etc but have done silly diets etc and have had eating problems before and said they wont be the 'cause' of it but it wont have helped.
If it is im sure the doc will refer me for whatever help advice etc i need just wanted 'real' peoples experiences //

you will just learn how to control your blood sugar, when it is high, when it is low and how to keep it stable.

Best of luck to you!

I will bump the diabetes support thread up. I couldn't get it into a sticky but it helps me. My SO is type 1 diabetic and we've been through a lot due to his diabetes. The beginning is rough to get things leveled out and learning how to take care and manage. It's a lot to take in. Practice poking an orange for a while so you have some experience before shooting yourself. Keep glucose on hand somewhere in your house. When eating and drinking, you want to watch the carbs in things. When my SO's sugar is going low, he can usually quickly drink a oceanspray juice or something like that. SO said when he was first diagnosed, they hospitalized him but I think it was bad enough they had to regulate his sugars for him to start. Find out if your local hospital has any classes on diabetes.
