How old was your baby when you introuduced rice cereal?

posted 22nd May '12
Im going to refer to my doctor at my daughters appointment this week but its always nice to get other peoples inputs!
I know your not suppose to introuduce rice cereal till 4 months but I see lots of people mentioning that they give there younger infints rice cereal. My daughter is almost 6 weeks old and is eating 4-6oz during the day, shes a hungry baby! and is really hungry her bottle before bed...eats 7-9....I start her with 6 and if she demands more I feed her more, I dont like feeding her that much for so young but Im going to do what keeps her happy and tummy full, anyhow Iv read some forums on how much oz peoples babys are having and read alot of people mentioning the rice cereal and thought maybe that could be a alternitive for her bottle before bed, when is a good time to introuduce it ?

I never gave it to Anna. If your LO is still hungry, feed her. Don't start giving her food just because you 'don't like feeding her that much'.

Never. It's not necessary. And certainly not before 4 months. Babies need bm/formula. Do not use cereal as an "alternative".

6 months. Rice cereal is a practice food for little ones, It's neutral and should be introduced when you start introducing other solids. It should never be put in a bottle. It's empty calories and is a choking hazard.

I stated DS at 7 months and DD at 8. I didn't want them to develop any allergies.
ETA: I started with veggies not rice.

Around 4 months old i think?..

I only introduced a tsp of it mixed with formula before his bottle to help keep his food down.

He has reflux.

giving rice cereal to a baby because they are hungry is like taking away steak from a man and giving him salad. It's LOWER calories. It may fill a stomach, but it doesnt' help. Your chid NEEDS the calories in formula or breast milk.. NOT rice.

Would you want to give up food for rice? no. It has no nutritional value other than the iron it's fortified with.

With my 4th child.. after research.. I never gave rice cereal.. adn I waited until 7 months to introduce solids.

My son wasn't born yet (technically) when they (the NICU) started him on rice cereal for reflux.

This reminds me of my sister..

She syringe feeds my nephew baby food (from the age of 2 months, hes 3 1/2 months now) all because she wants him to be fuller for longer

He still has the baby tongue reflex and if you try to feed him with a spoon will automatically push the food out of his mouth.. obviously hes not ready for food if hes doing that LOL!

Im sure someone on here said that it doesn't even keep their tummies fuller for longer?
