Like I mentioned, Im looking for input and also mentioned that I would refer to my doctor, I come on here once in a while and write a forum simply to seek advice because as a first time mother, like everyone, i have lots of questions, Its not that i just "dont like feeding her that much" my concern is that she's eating more then the recommended for her weight and age.
However, also like I mentioned, I feed her more when she wants more.

Just continue to feed on demand. She might be going through a growth spurt.

You're a first time mom. We don't just know these things once we give birth- sometimes it's trial and error and sometimes people will forget that. But you came looking for answers before you decided to, which means you are doing the right thing.

It is fine if she is drinking more than the "recommended" amount   My daughter was taking an ungodly amount, like 64-72 oz so we did do rice sometimes, but I didn't start til 4 months, even then she was still taking in around 56 oz, sometimes more. Some kiddos just need more. Even at 10 months she was still taking in 32-40 oz of formula a day, plus 6 jars of the size 3 foods, 2 bowls of oatmeal plus snacks all through out the day. She was by far my biggest eater, and ironically my most tiny kiddo. At her 1 yr check up she only weighed 15 pounds and 13 ounces

Youre doing the right thing by giving her formula when she's hungry. At this point that's the best thing for her. Don't worry about her eating "too much".

my little boy is 5 weeks old and he eats about 6 oz every 3 or 4 hrs.
he's a very hungry baby.
sometimes he eats more!
I just give him formula though, I wouldn't give him anything else for a few more months.

p.s here in england you can get formula in all brands called hungry baby formula, do you have that?
it's meant to be a bit thicker and you don't have to give them as much as it fills the baby quicker =] maybe try that?

My son is 7 weeks and he was started on 1 TBS at bedtime because his reflux is really bad at night even on a incline. We have had him on tummy meds for 3 weeks now. It better during the day but still bad at night. I refuse to put it in a bottle I make it soupy like formula and we get messy and spoon feed. It takes a long time but its worth him not being sick. I see they make the sliced nipples specially for rice in formula, but I am worried he would get a small clump or something and choke.

Every mother is Different BUT. Unless your child has acid reflux and your baby's Doctor tells you to give them cereal early you absolutely do not give rice cereal until AT LEAST 4 months of age. Their stomachs are not designed to digest solid food until then.

Even WIC will not give you cereal vouchers until the baby is 6 months of age.

Your baby needs either breast milk or formula. You thinking that LO is eating too much, is false thinking your baby is just going through a growth spurt and regardless of you not wanting them to not have that much, LO eating a lot may be normal. Talk with your doctor about it. But your baby is right at a growth spurt point.

Oh I don't doubt you feed her mama. Just keep giving her the formula, that's what she needs. Some babies eat more than recommended, some less. Some babies are on the bigger side, some on the smaller size. If she's hungry, she clearly needs it. Formula has the nutrients she needs, cereal does not. Every baby is different, and it's scary trying to figure out what YOUR baby needs. You're doing fine, dear. Just keep doing what you're doing.

You may also find she eats more before a growth spurt, and then cuts back severely on her intake. Just follow her cues. Her body knows what it needs.

For that yes, and you are going the right way about it, not adding it to a bottle. Do you know how many idiots do it from a bottle and just use a regular nipple they make the hole bigger themselves??? Hello choking hazard!
