Just got put on insulin...

posted 2nd May
... And i have to say it isn't as bad as last time. It's amazing how much things have advanced in 5 years. I had GD with my son and had to inject myself twice a day with a big long needle and check my sugars up to 7 times a day. I was miserable. This time around I only check my sugars 4 time a day and I've been on glyburide pills the entire pregnancy(but it stopped be effective)and have just started insulin today. The needles now are soo much shorter and smaller and i didn't feel a thing when I injected myself this morning. And my monitor... it's so advanced... i just stick a chip in when i start a new barrel of strips , insert a strip, and go. no more coding or worrying that i did something wrong. I'm just amazed at how far thing have come in only 5 years.

On a side note. I also found out that sinceI have GD my doctor said I'll be induced at 38weeks. And I started fetal monitoring today and will continue twice a week until birth. Only 6 weeks left to go and soo much still to do! I don't know where I'll find the time.

This is my 2nd pregnancy with GD also. I am on insulin shots too.

No not really, I am using my same meter which you do have to code
But my son is only 2yrs old..so I don't think there was a big change lol

I failed my 1 & 3 hour glucose tests last week and this week I had to go see the nutritionist and get a meter and strips and stuff. I'm supposed to test my blood 2 hours after meals and be below 130. I got a list of foods I should be eating and she wants me to stay away from salt too.

Last night I just felt like crying, my huband thought he was being funny by mentioning all the things I can't eat now but I was really upset. I LOVE FOOD! I want my baby to be healthy so I'll follow this diet but I just feel really sad and stupid. I can't even have the cake they're serving at my baby shower on Saturday!

Ok, I need to kick myself in the butt and get out of the feeling sorry for myself mode......

hun, I felt the same way with my 1st. but with some people its something u just can't avoid.
Do you have to take insulin shots? I do. This is my 2nd pregnancy with it. Its not tooo bad once u get in the swing of it.
You can have a small peice of cake at your baby shower! I did! I just watched what I ate all that morning and made the cake one of my snacks for the day.
My sugar didn't sky rocket either from it.

No, I'm not on insulin. I have PCOS which makes you insulin resistant and then with the baby pretty much freaking my body out, it's just too much for my poor pancreas if I keep eating the way I have been. I'm sure after the baby is born and I'm done breastfeeding I'll go back on glucophage (I went off of it because it upset my stomach so much) which will help too.

I am just being a brat and mouring food. I love food....probaby why I weigh so much and am having these problems in the first place.  )

My dad was diagnosed with Diabetes at 60, his mom had it too and my uncle on my mom's side has it so I should be really watching myself anyway. These are good life lessons for me to learn.

I'll do that...my friend is making fruit pizza and leaving out the sugar and civiche and then they are getting this really yummy cake. I'll just watch what I eat and then I should be fine. It's so wierd that you can't 'feel' when your bloodsugar is too high, I would have thought I didn't feel right or something but I feel fine. Other than the baby is doing something that is making me feel like I got kicked in the crotch about 40 times. LOL! Thanks for the sympathy!

It does seem like every thing you want has to much sugar or carbs in it.

But at least we get the best reward of all when its all done, right?

Oh i totally can relate all i want to do is bing on candy and cheese cake and cookies and i can't. I can have a small amount, but not like what i wish i could have. LOL.... what kind of diet are you on? are you on portioning or carb diet? I'm on carb counting and it's not so bad. AND i found a brand of ice creambar that only has like 9 carbs a serving. It's called Blue bunny you can get it at your local walmart. I highly reccomend the dark raspberry one. SOOOO tasty! and it definately curves the sweet craving^_^ Just hang in there its all worth it in the end! My goal. after I have her is to Eat a bit of everything i was denied then go on a good exercise plan^_^

I'm doing the carb diet, it's actually not that bad, I just have to be really honest with the portion sizes. I feel like I'm hungry though even after I eat. I guess I need to get used to smaller portions of HEALTHIER food.....LOL~~~~

I am like that too! I hate feeling hungry, and I know I won't get anything again for 2hrs. I think that that alone makes me hungry cause I have to think about that. lol

I'm at work all dang day too and I can't eat while I'm at the bank so it's a pain to have to 'plan' all my snacks and meals and stuff. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it someday.

I want a big ass piece of chocolate cake with a monsterous glass of milk and the giggest mocha I've ever seen. Those are my cravings, especially now that I know I can't have it!

I agree with both of you I'm always starving too!
What are some of the things you find don't raise your sugar much after you eat it and it's still satisfying. Mine are

*Meat loaf-few carbs and nice and filling I usually have a helping of velveta shells and cheese with it and maybe some corn or salad
*Bakes spagetti using- barilla penne pasta, Mama Lucia meatballs(in the frozen section) 1 can hunts spagetti sauce(any flavor) and of course shreadded cheese to go on top. I can have a huge helping of this until i'm full and still not have high sugar usually. and it's great for leftovers
*Meatball subs- Same sauce and meatballs as above heated on the stove then placedn a sub roll(take out some of th excess bread) then put slices of cheese on top and put it in the oven on broil for a few minutes til cheese melted and crunchy. It's usually pretty filling and can serve as a full meal.
*Breakfast for dinner. Scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast with butter on it.
*Lemon peppered chicken and some form of side(i'm a huge corn fan so usually corn) Or garlic butter newpotatoes

so that's about it for me^_^ Maybe it will help you guys. you'll only know if you try^_^ and i'd love to know what you do, cause some of that is getting kinda old. ^_^;

Pasta and mac n cheese seems to raise my sugars real high.
I will have to try the meat ball sub thing though, I LOVE those.
did you know corn breaks down into sugars, your system can't break them down very well. So just make sure you becareful with corn.
I make alot of taco salads, they are pretty low in carbs.
pork chops too.
I make a roast, potatos and carrots..that makes a pretty good meal. very filling.
I eat alot of salads too.

I LOVE chocolate cake and milk-oh my goodness lol
Of course I crave that all the time--chocolate.
Only when I'm pregnant though. I don't care for sweets any other time. So of course when I want them, I can't have them-ugh!
