feeling like your life is over

posted 20th May '12
Okay so i'm not looking to be told i need to grow the smurf up and that i shouldnt have been so irresponsible and smurf like that, I'm wondering if any other teen parents have felt like their life is over? I'm single and pregnant and 18, i feel like now that im pregnant my life is completely over, my friends don't hardly wanna talk to me no more and im sure after i have my son it will get even worse, i look at old pictures from when i was in high school, i graduated 2011, and i just miss those days and i know ill never get them back now that im pregnant, cause i refuse to be like a girl i know who does whatever she pleases without thinking about her kids, she hasnt even tried to finish getting her GED or a job or making a better life for her kids, and i REFUSE to be that person, i just feel like i'm not gonna have a life now, which i know is a little ridiculous because i know tons and tons and tons of girls who are AWESOME mom's but still find time every once in awhile to have a girls night, their kids are 1 year and up though. Does anyone else feel like this?

You'll still have a life, your priorities will just be different. I have a 2 year old (almost), and I still go out a lot and have a good time. It's just a matter of time management.

Sometimes it sucks knowing that there are a ton of things I'll never get to do (like study abroad in Japan ((japanese is my major)) ), and that everyone else gets to do these things, but I'm happy I have my kids because I know they keep me out of a lot of trouble (I never party, drink, etc., because I have them!) It makes me focus harder in college, etc., knowing I have them to look after. And I have so much fun with them. I have my 'down' days, but they're worth it.

Awe *hugs* you will still have a life your priorities will be alot different . Im a bit older then you im 22 this year but iv noticed the same thing with my friends they all kinda keep there distance from you because you can no longer party with them. Honestly though it shows you who your real friends our 4 of my friends have stuck by me and are still around . what i would suggest you do is join a pre natal group in town if they have them i joined one and i find just being able to go weekely to a place where other girls and women are going through the same thngs and types of issues helps alot . Once you have your LO to you will start meeting other moms and having play dates and making friends that way to . Your lifes not over its just changing and heading down a different path its scary i get scared still everyday but you will get through it just take it day by day like i do . good luck

I got pregnant at 18 had my son at 19 and now I'm 20 trust me I understand your fun life of friends seems to stop but you start a new chapter in life it's very rewarding I love my LO very much yes I have moments that I wish I could be a normal 20year old but I wouldn't change things because of him I'm motivated I work fulltime and I'm in school as well I graduated 2010 this whole thing is new to you so it will take some getting used too

I was a first time mom at 15 and while I was scared as hell I looked at it as I made this kid and I'm gonna do whatever i have to do to make his/her life better than what mine's ever was. Now she's 13, smart as a whip, and happy. It may be hard at first but don't look at it as your life is over. That makes it seem like you regret your kid. I can tell you this same thing I was told and at first I took it as an insult....you made the kid now you gotta grow up...believe me I didn't wnat to hear those words! But in the end I realized they weren't criticizing me but telling me that by having a kid I would have to stop thinking and acting like a kid myself and start acting like a mom. I went to school, graduated, went to college, all while taking care of her. It will be hard hun but so worth it in the end. Especially when you get to see what I see. A child doing well in school getting award after award all knowing you helped that child grow. It's the best feeling. Your life isn't over hun. You're just getting started. I couldn't imagine my life if my daughter hadn't entered it.
