demand feeding

My lo is 3 weeks today and was born at 34 weeks. I've been feeding him on a schedule but do you think it would be okay if I started feeding him on demand?

as in stretching longer between feedings? Or feeding sooner?

do you BF or formula feed?

If he's on a schedule now.. you may find his "on demand" will just follow the schedule. They get used to it and their body starts wanting in based on teh schedule.

Depends, if it's formula it's very easy to fall into a vicious cycle of over feeding then projectile which will make them fussy which will make you think they're hungry again. If BF'd, absolutely! I have done both btw.

I do my son was born at 31 weeks when we went home after beein in the nicu for 2 weeks he was on his every 3 hr feedings til at night then he went to every 2 hrs now hes every 4 hrs i always feed him when hes hungry his pedi said it was fine when we went to his weight checks every week ta two weeks she said that as long as he is getin his weight hell b fine

I am breastfeeding. I'm guessing it would be closer together sometimes and further apart sometimes.

My Dr (high risk pediatrician) said not until she was 12lbs. This happened at 6 months old, so until then I fed her every 3 hours. She was much earlier then yours though.

Feed on demand. But you probably shouldn't let it go more than 2 hours in between feedings. I was told to feed my preemie every 2 hours for the first month

absolutely. Just remember everytime a baby cries it doesn't mean he needs to eat. BF on demand is good for mlk supply.

On demand!! It is better for your supply.
