Whenever you're ready.
I plan on letting my 15 month old self wean.

When they are ready.

..If you don't want to go that route, I'd say after 2 which is WHO's minimum.

Not before 2, but preferably self weaning.

I am generally for self-weaning, but I also feeling that nursing needs to be mutually desired. If you are ready to wean, then go ahead and wean. If baby is still under a year then make sure you give formula. If baby is over a year, then just wean gradually onto milk.

Whenever mom and baby no longer need or want to nurse anymore. There isn't a specific time limit on when to stop breastfeeding, it remains beneficial even during toddler years.

Wow, all wonderful answers  .

Only you (and your baby) can decide. As long as it feels right for both of you, keep doing it  . I thought I would have to either wean my daughter before going back to work (at 12 months) or pump, I hated pumping so I tried to wean her, neither of us were very happy with that decision so I only weaned her through the hours I would be away from her (and it was very difficult on both of us). I have since decided to let her wean when she is ready, as long as I am comfortable with it and want to. Her brother will have the same opportunity (plus, he didn't have to deal with me trying to wean him, I'm staying at home until he's in junior kindergarten  ).

I planned to let my daughter self wean. And she started to self wean at 11 months. She is a year now, and only nurses every few days. I'm also 8 pregnant so that might have something to do with it. Dh said the taste changed. lol
