Breastfeeding & Vitamins

i was wondering what vitamins the b-feeding mama's on here take.. did you go out on your own and purchase them, or did your doctor priscibe them or recomend them to you when they found out you wanted to breast feed?

I was told to continue taking my prenatal vitamins (they were a prescription).

My midwives recommended continuing with my prenatals until we finished breastfeeding.

okay, thats what i thought, i just ran out, and i wasnt going to buy anymore since im due next week. my doctor gave me samples to last me the rest of the week, but i'll go get some anyhow.

is it ok to swith prenatals? like i was taking my prescription, and i started a different brand the office gave me so i wouldnt have to buy more

I've always used the equate brand from walmart or materna ..

okay, ill check it out when i go to the grocery tomorrow, i know my normal ones are 60 dollars, thats why i didnt want to buy more for one week unless i could continue taking them while breastfeeding.. do the ones you buy have the DHA in them, mine do, i dont know if that makes any diffrence

No DHA in these.

I've purchased Multi Prenatal vitamins from Costco (wholesale store). It comes with 300 tablets for about $15. The formula is rich in Folic Acid, Iron, Zinc and Vitamin D. I showed it to my doc and he said it was fine to take while I was pregnant and while I was breastfeeding. I wouldn't waste your money on the prescription prenatals. Use that extra money on diapers! ;)
