Is it weird?

posted 14th May '12
One of my neighbors who I am friends with and talk to a lot just found out she was pregnant. She has been freaked out and worried about miscarrying since she found out and at her confirmation appointment today the lady really upset her and told her that most women miscarry twice before carrying a baby to term (I have NEVER heard this and she and her husband have been TTC for a good while). She's hormonal and already worried and that just made her super upset so I made brownies to cheer her up.

They're in the oven now but thinking about it... is it weird to make brownies for someone who is upset because they're afraid of miscarrying?

Hahahaha

No, I think it's sweet. But I'm southern. It's an instinct to bake when something is wrong, here... lol

not at all.
I've never heard that miscarriage thing before. No one in my family has miscarried their first pregnancy. My first pregnancy gave me my DS. I think that's a big fat myth.
It's sweet that you are making brownies. It might cheer her up and put her worries at bay for a little.

It's never weird to care about someone!   I have NEVER heard that 'statistic' before and I have seen LOTS of docs and have had all kinds of trouble (never miscarriage), but we talked about it a TON and that was never said to me.

Wth. Maybe she meant those period miscarriages where most women never knew they were pregnant because they mistook it for their period? Either way that was smurffy of her to say to your friend. Lol I wouldn't think to make brownies for someone in that situation so yeah it's kinda weird, but I know if I was on the receiving end I'd appreciate them.

I just figured pregnant women (without morning sickness) usually like to eat so brownies would be nice lol. I figured I would take her brownies and talk if she wanted to. Glad nobody else thinks that's a strange idea though!

That's what I thought of lol. Like "Hey sorry you're worried, here's some brownies"   I was actually wondering if that's what the doctor meant to, still no reason to say that to the poor girl though =/

Hahaha. When my mom's neighbors found out she had breast cancer, she couldn't eat all the pies she got.

"Hey, sorry you have cancer, here's an apple pie." lol

But really, though, I think it's so sweet for someone to go through the trouble of baking for someone to show that they are thinking about them!

That's interesting o.O I just hate when people are upset, I like to try and do something to cheer them up. But now my house smells like delicious brownies and I really want one!

Lmao, yeah but of course you wouldn't present them like that, just let her know you're thinking about her and hope she is feeling better soon! I feel like in that situation they would be a great distraction, even if only temporary. No one could pass up brownies lol!

Exactly. And I can't remember from the op if you said she had a doctor's appointment or just went for confirmation, but if it was a doctors office I would complain and definitely be switching asap.

My SiL did almost the exact thing when my mom found out she had breast cancer.. My mom.. who has been on a low fat diet for 2 years was bombarded with ridiculously fatty food from SiL for days... She called me one day and was like "Hey, she keeps bringing me food I wont eat, I froze it all, when she isn't around can you please come pick it all up?" lol
