All you thrifty mamas!

How did you save for baby number 2? I had way too much useless stuff for Kinley when she was born, and never used half of it. So we decided to donate most of it to a friend that needed it. And now guess what? Here comes baby number 2! Excited and scared is what I am because I wanted to wait until we were financially ready for another baby, but I'm guessing that would be never. Any advice on being thriftier the second time around?

I saved nothing and bought it all again myself less than 2 years later.

We bought very little. I got our swing off free cycle, cosleeper for cheap off Craigslist. Hit up diaper sales we bought very little clothes and glad we did he only fit NB a few weeks 0-3 fit just fine. With our first we had massive amounts of clothes and he barely wore any of it. We shop for the sizes he needs when he needs them like in a few weeks he will need bigger stuff so we've been planning a trip to the outlet mall.

Sounds good. The first time I bought a lot of clothes and my brother was really nice and bought all of his friends girl stuff at a garage sale and I tried to use all of it so I wouldn't feel guilty but it was impossible. And most of the swings and things she either loved or didn't. I wish I would have been able to save, but we moved across the country. I just know we were single and just threw money around the first time. It will have to be different this time. I can't even buy anything now because we're moving again soon and I don't want to haul it with us. Luckily we're moving to a big city so hopefully we'll find some good deals. And hopefully it will be a boy this time around so I won't feel bad about getting rid of all her baby stuff.

I'm mostly going to be reusing most things except the car seat. I just keep my eye open for clearance items at walmart and such. When I was pregnant the first time around, I got an infant carseat for 30.00 because the box was ripped and I hit up places like Big Lots and yard sales for items that didn't *have* to be new. Most of his clothes came second hand, too.

I reused everything from our first son for our second. I also shopped thrift stores and craigs list for anything extra I needed. You can usually find nice double strollers and stuff like that on Craig's list.

If I have a girl next I will be set for clothes because my daughter has smurfloads but if I have a boy we will have to buy a few. My swing is really girly but I also have a boyish one that I keep at my moms, and everything else is pretty gender neutral so I won't have to spend too much money.   Don't want another for at least like 3 years though!! lol

Thats what we have been going for, too. We boughyt Harmony a walker and made sure it was not pink with flowers or anything. If we use the same pack n play, though, it will be girly, but I doubt he will care, lol. (that's if we have a boy).

My momma taught me well. I am pretty cheap so I saved almost everything! I still have my oldest's baby clothes and he is almost 8! I do alot of shopping at second hand stores. Why spend a butt load of money on stuff that really won't be used that long

Thanks for all the advice girls. I wish I could have saved everything but we moved cross country and had to downsize a lot. So must of it we don't have anymore. But to save for what we do need I decided to start making baby headbands so let me know if any of you would like to buy or know someone who would.
