first trimester abortion

My best friend is pregnant for the first time and has decided to get an abortion after finding out everything the guy told her was a lie. Anyway, she doesn't know how far along she is, but estimates somewhere around 7-8 weeks. She has an appt next Wed and was told it would be around two hours. What kind of procedure do they normally do at this stage? What should she expect? Will they listen to the heart beat and all that ? I don't know what to tell her as I've never had one. Tia

Pretty sure the new laws make you wait 24 hours and do a u/s and listen to the heartbeat before the abortion.

Depending on the state she might have to wait 24 hours after counseling. That early, she will either have a medical (pill) abortion or surgical abortion, where they more or less "suck" everything out within a few minutes.

Depending on the laws in her state.
Here they do an ultrasound to check how far along you are, but you dont get to see it. Than they basically drug you and Honestly I cant remember anything else, Than you wake up groggy and nauseas.

They will do an US to confirm gestation. They will talk to her to make sure it is what she wants and that no one is forcing her into the decision. Then they will probably do the surgical unless she is under nine weeks at the time. If she is under nine weeks the abortion pills may be an option.

From my experience:
First, she has to have a proof of pregnancy from a doctor and they can tell her how far along she is. They might listen to the heart beat, I guess that depends on the DR. (She should probably ask not to) At the abortion clinic, they will give her an ultrasound to double check how far along she is, but they don't show her the screen.
She's early enough to get a medical abortion, rather than a surgical abortion, so she should do that. I can't remember exactly what happens next.. I remember talking to a therapist for like 10 mins., watching an informative video on abortion, they drew my blood, gave me a shot of rhogam, gave me a pill, then I was done. The sent me home with two pills that I had to insert in my vagina. The next few hours were absolutely miserable and nearly unbearable. I slept for as long as I could, because the pain was intense. When I woke up, I was still cramping and bleeding, but it was over..

It varies by state, her best bet is to call the clinic and ask what the process is.

How was the bleeding? Period like or more? How long did it last

It was heavier than a period and clotty. Uh, I can't remember how long it lasted.. This was soo long ago. Hm, I wanna say about a week. But of course, the bleeding decreased over time
