Preemie baby with GBC? Help!!! *pics*

Hello ladies!

I am on this forum not for myself but for my sister's preemie daughter who was born at 32 weeks last Sunday May 6. So my sister went in for a swollen finger and while she was there they checked on the baby just to make sure everything was okay since they said it was a spider bite that caused her finger to swell up, so they put her on the monitor and she was having contractions every 2-3 mins but the crazy thing was she was not having pain at all! They checked her and surprisingly she was 4cm dilated   Her labor was fast and she had my little niece just a few hrs later, born weighing 3lbs...she seemed so perfect and healthy even for a preemie baby! But as the days went by she started getting worse   So she was only receiving nutrients through IV bc her intestines are inflamed ...so today I checked in on her and now they say she has a blood infection and something called GBC??? I'm clueless! My sister is only 17, and she has no idea how to handle this, she won't leave her side and seems like she's going into depression   Don't know how to help her so if any you mommas have been through a similar case would you be so kind and share with me, I need all the prayers and support for my beautiful niece, btw her name is Delilah

The best idea would just be to be there for her if worse does come to worse. I am so sorry your family is going through this! Idk what the condition is and I cannot find it on the internet.. Prayers to your family!

She's so precious, sorry your sister and you..your family are going through this. I have not a clue about GBC i'm sorry but praying for ya'll and hope that little baby gets well fast!

Though I could be wrong, GBC = Group B Strep. Women are typically tested for it and treated prior to labor if necessary.
It is a Streptococcal bacteria that is normally present, can cause symptoms but doesn't usually cause the types of problems that Group A Strep does, except in newborns.
I am sorry to report that it can be deadly in infants. I am sure the doctors are doing all they can, and hopefully litlle June Bug will pull through - she looks pretty good for a premie - I mean that she seems to have some fat on her, which is good.

Omg   well thanks for the info momma, she's been on antibiotics and she will be at least for 10 days, no formula or breast milk until she gets better  

Is it GBS or GBC?? With prompt treatment GBS is treatable, she is where she needs to be they are monitering her breathing, resp failure is 1 way baby can pass... she looks good just wait out the antibiotics, my son was in nicu for 6 weeks when he was born for gastrochisis sooo he was given food thru an iv as well... make sure ur sister understands what dr.s are telling her, and if she needs extra help ask the social worker at the hosp. Or in that unit for some kind of extra talking sessions, or maybe a group for other mommas that are in nicu

Thanks momma, this brings me some comfort, I'm always there with her even though I have never been in that situation but I feel like she needs me, I ask questions for her, she's just completely clueless and I understand she's just really worried and scared...ohh and it is GBC.

Awww that's good ur there   I was single when I had my baby and 21 I was a hott mess... but I had dr.s that explained everything to me really well I think I looked like I had no idea what was going on haha,

Yeah that's y I'm still looking lol I got my nusing books down this is wierding me out haha I even called my husband who's and RN I never heard of gbc   in newborns
