When you feel sober enough to drive you can nurse. And you don't have to pump and dump for alcohol at all ever.

I always here this..But what if someone is a HEAVY drinker & feels like they can drive when they really shouldnt? lol

I usually wait 4 hours and give her a bottle for when she gets hungry in that time period or when I feel normal again I bf her. I had a margarita the other night and I gave her a bottle for one feeding then gave her boob next feeding. I feel bad when I can't bf her and she is looking for the boobies, so I don't drink often.

That is true...but I think the majority of people know when they should and shouldn't be driving.

Here was an episode of the Osborne's reality show when ozzy used his keychain breathalizer to see if he could drive and his blood alcohol level was like .4 or something ridiculously high.

The only reason to "pump and dump" is to keep your supply up with your child's needs.
As someone else said, if you're sober enough to drive you are sober enough to breastfeed. if you are weary about this method then you can buy test strips at babies r us for testing the alcohol level in your breast milk.

If your child is in bed and wouldn't normally nurse until morning, then there is no reason to pump and dump.
If your child is going to be eating pumped milk/formula in between now, and however long it takes for you to be sober... then I would recommend pumping and dumping just to keep your supply up to your childs standards.

Thank you all...What I ended up doing is I gave him a bottle....and then pumped my milk at 12 which was 2 hours after i finished my 1.5 drinks...which I drank at a very slow rate. I didn't feel tipsy or anything like that at all...so I was probably good before that two hours was up...
