is it still possible?

posted 9th May '12
So I posted here I think last week about unprotected sex after just getting off mirena and getting on the pill. I had some spotting but it turned into what I think was a period. Kinda. I bled on&off for 3 days. Literally on&off. And I'm still kinda nervous to test because with my second I had a full blown period. And around the 2nd month before my period was due again. I just had a feeling I was preg. So I tested and sure enough I was. I was 9 weeks. So I was still kinda feeling like maybe I am. Is it possible to have a "period" and still be pregnant. . . AGAIN.

No, it's impossible to have a period while pregnant. You can have implantation bleeding, or bleeding from other causes, but it cannot be your period.

If it was a period then you wouldn't be pregnant. We can't tell you. You need to test.

Well, it's not a period when you are pregnant, its just bleeding. & its very possible that you are pregnant. Every time you have unprotected sex its possible to get pregnant. On bc or not.

See that's how I see it. If you bleed its not possible. That's why with my second I didn't test til like the second month and I was preg. I had a full blown bled for 5 days PERIOD. And there she was. It was impossible. But she was. So that's why I'm so nervous now.

The only way you'll know is if you test. Then if you are, you can take care of yourself properly & go see an OB.

That's the misconception. Just because you bleed and it resembles a period, doesn't mean that it IS one. It's literally impossible. Your period is when the egg is not fertilized and your uterus sheds it's blood and lining. It can't do that if you're pregnant.

So your saying just because I THINK I had a period doesn't mean it was one. . . . Even if I bled one pregnancy and was still pregnant after?

Yes. If you are pregnant, you CANT have a period. You can bleed from other sources though. A period is part of your reproductive cycle, it won't cycle if it's already pregnant.

You can bleed and it not be your period. I bled off and on for about three or four days but there's no way for it to have been my period because I was pregnant. The bleeding from a period is your uterus shedding its lining, this would be something completely different if you're pregnant since you're not shedding the uterine lining. I'm not positive what EXACTLY it is, I never asked my doctor, he said it was normal and that everything was fine and that was the end of the discussion. I guess I didn't care what it was as long as my baby was okay.

Yeah, that's a good idea. If you're not pregnant, sometimes thinking you are can make you have early pregnancy related symptoms. Power of the brain and all that. Good luck Mama!

Well you'll never know if you don't test! But the symptoms sound like pregnancy, BUT it's still possible that you're thinking you're pregnant and you're not and your body is acting like it is because you're stressing over it. And on the other hand you can be pregnant. There's a 10% chance of getting pregnant each month.

LOL trust me when I say I know exactly how you feel. #1&2 are a year and 2 weeks apart. It really sucked. I waited almost 9 years for #3. (that sucked too, it was too big of a gap lol)
