You are correct, they no longer allow husbands and wives with children to enlist anymore.

Okay, lol. I was thinking that Teen Mom probably isn't the most reliable source,, haha. I felt like my entire ability to argue a point went down when I had to pull that gem out. "Well, on Teen Mom they said. . ."

That makes sense though. I mean, I wouldn't think it would be ideal for both parents to be cross country truck drivers either. I don't think it's selfish at all, and if it works for others, then that's their business. I wouldn't look down on anyone for making that choice, but it would not be one I'd do. I just couldn't imagine leaving my kids for all the time when I knew their Dad wouldn't be there either.

They can't. But I'm not entirely sure how it works if they have kids together AFTER they have enlisted.

Also, I don't think it's selfish at all. Anything but. It takes A LOT to leave your family for months on end to go risk your life in a foreign country.

My friend who was telling me about the article isn't married yet; she and her fiance are having a baby soon and then will both be deployed when the baby is 6 months old for a year.
I didn't think they allowed both parents to deploy at the same time either; but they're in the same unit, and maybe it's because they aren't married? Or because they've both been enlisted for awhile (since before they met/got pregnant).

Yeah, if they are already in there isnt much the military can do. It just depends on their job at the unit and if both are needed at the same time. Most units have a remain behind party and might have them alternate so they dont deploy together but they dont have to do that.

I believe pregnant AD women have the option to be discharged. My friend and her husband are AD, she stayed in.

How does she know so far in advance? They might not deploy them at the same time for all she knows. Nothing is set in stone and I seriously doubt she knows EXACTLY what she'll be doing so far ahead of time. I'm not saying it's impossible but it might not happen, at least not at the same time. I've actually never heard of both parents deploying at the same time before and I know quite a few couples who are active duty.

(By the way, I know it varies! I'm just saying I don't personally know any AD couples who have ever been deployed at the same time. One of the couples we're closest too actually just added their fourth child to their brood  )

And such is that you'll probably end up running into one another again one day, lol. The military = small world. If you or your spouse stays in long enough you're bound to run into the same people eventually.

Anyway, this is one of the reasons I love Facebook so. It makes keeping in touch so much easier for lazy people like me, heh.

I'm not sure selfish is the right word, but it isn't a wise decision.
