How early for a bouncer

posted 8th May '12
My son is constantly trying to bear weight on his legs and sometimes even cried to be held here he can do so.. but 8W to me is too early for a bouncer? Am I wrong? How early did your LO sit in a bouncer?

you mean like a johnny jumper? or a jumparoo?

not a bouncy seat?

as long as he has head control and you put a pillow under his feet so it doesnt turn his legs purple from dangling for so long then he should be fine

For one of those jumper things? Is that what your talking about? I hear bouncer and think the thing on the floor.

For us it was as soon as he could hold his head mostly up. Probably around 8 weeks. It wasn't so much for the leg bouncing part, mostly to give him a place to sit for a few moments out of big brother and sister's way.

like a johnny jumper or exersaucer? I started DD around 3 months she had good head control and could sit supported. She used a bouncer seat from day 1

exersaucers/jumpers are meant for babies that are at least 4 months old.

They need to be able to hold their head up completely, with no "bobble head" movements. Right around 4 months. Too soon can put too much strain on them.

Yea, like a johnny jumper, thats what I meant, sorry .. guess it's just the cajun way to call it a bouncer. He has awesome head control! Still a little wobbly from time to time.. If I would even consider this- I'd sit right next to him and provide slight head support as a precaution.. I just was concerned about his legs hanging there. Never though of a pillow.

i think he's to young still, it's not good for their neck to be strained like that before their muscles are developed enough, if you read the manual they say around 4 months is when baby is ready

his head is what you have to worry about.. if he's still wobbly I wouldn't do it.

I put my 3 1/2 month in a jumperoo.. he can reach the floor(my oldest couldnt reach the floor at 4 months). I do however put towels around his sides so he doesn't flop in there. I'm planning on getting him an exercauser soon. He just got way too bored way too fast so I put him in his brothers old one. He tires out quickly, and I have to watch him closely.

I did it. I have a little einsteins jumper. But personally mine was to keep him out of his older siblings. He couldn't touch the floor, and he just leaned forward in it and looked around. I often put things around him or a blanket under him. It was just to give him something to do out of the way. And I never left him longer than 15 minutes in it

Here he is at 2 months 7 days ish. His birthday was December 31 and this was taken March 7th.

But that's just me, I have 2 kids and now this one.
