Guam **vent**

posted 7th May '12
I am so smurfing over this damn island. My husband is active duty in the US Navy. After he got out of basics he came to live on Guam where his duty station is and where we would be living for the next 3 years. He got out here march of last year and I didn't get to come out till August cause the damn plane ticket for one way was 1500 dollars( same amount for a round trip) I never thought I could hate a place so bad. I miss Texas air and not the smell of burning trash everywhere you go. The locals are racist as hell. I ride horses and not one single horse out here they have water buffalo to do their work. Poor dogs everywhere on the streets. Pit bull and cock fighting is like going to the kentucky derby and cock fighting is totally legal. It would cost me and my husband 3000 dollars to go home and my family won't be able to even see my first child until income taxes next year and I'm due oct 7th. This is absolutely the worst place to be pregnant there is no sonic, Arbys, jack in the box, anything!!!!! I wish I could go home to have this child but that is downright impossible! Sorry for such a long rant but a girls gotta talk to someone.

No military wives are always just stuck up and think that if their husband is a higher rank than mine than they are better. It's just me my husband, kitty, and dog. It's horrible! I cry all the time cause it's so miserable here. We have snorkeling I have been a lot but it's smurfin scary cause I saw a barracuda and black tip reef shark!

So you baby will be born in Guam? Sorry for my ignorance........will your baby be an American Citizen? (sorry I really don't know)
That is interesting. Where do you shop? Is there other Navy wives to talk to?

Wow! That is definitely scary, with the shark and barracuda...Are you allowed to go out and meet with the local women, not the just the military ones? Might be a cool experience to learn about a new culture. When are you due? I couldn't imagine being that far away from my friends, that's for sure.

Yes the baby will be an American citizen because he/she will be born on a military base. I usually shop at the commissary or the navy exchange. The wives just really kind of suck and most of them are older and I feel like they are more like my mom than a friend and like I said the other wives wear their husbands rank like its theirs and they are better than me.

The locals out here don't like the military people. They stare and are very rude they are called Chamorros. The older more wiser locals are ok but that like 80 years and above older! I'm due oct 7th which is still a bit always. The locals out here have a slogan called "buy local hire local." so it's nearly impossible to get a job cause your not local and can't speak Japanese cause this is like Japan's Hawaii!! But looks a lot smurffier. Being away from my family and friends this long is killing me its the hardest thing I have ever done but I'm so thankful for my husband!

Aw, that's really tough...I'm surprised that they wouldn't be friendly. That makes it so much harder. At least you've got your hubby, though! Hmmm...I'm trying to think of things that could make you feel better...Maybe just stick it out, and then use it as leverage with your husband. :p "Oh, but honey, I stuck out ALL those years with you in Guam!". Lol, jokes. But that is seriously tough...With my little girl, her due date seemed like ages away, but now that we're getting closer it is feeling like it went way too fast. Hopefully it will be the same for you!

I am sorry.   Yeah, my husband is a Marine and we're on a Navy base and a lot of wives can be total bitches. You're lucky when you find a couple legit women to hang out with.

I don't live nearly as far from home, so it's not so bad. But also working at the NEX part time really helps pass the time, and they have great benefits as well as guaranteed transfer to wherever your husband goes next. Maybe even working a few hours a week would help keep you busy and pass time. Besides, they hired me 5 months pregnant no problem.

Best of luck.

Military bases are considered American soil and Guam is a US territory, much like Puerto Rico.

That's the problem the military base here hires the locals and when thy don't hire te locals they bitch and complain that we are favoring white people. All of the shops on base are completely stocked with locals. Its not fair! And this military base will just allow almost anyone on. They don't check all id's so locals come and go to use the commissary and get stuff at a cheaper price. This island is seriously smurfed up and it sucks!
