Preemies and development?

posted 6th May '12
Hey I was just wondering. If you had a preemie did it take any of them to learn how to walk longer? Lila just turned 1 yesterday and she still isn't walking. She stands on her knees and "walks" like that but as of yet as she does is cruise the furniture and stand momentarily.
I'm not worries about it as I've known some term babies not walk till 14 months but I was just wondering.
Oh and does the walking on the knees thing sound weird??? Never seen a baby do that lol

My son is 17 months, 15 adjusted, and still doesn't walk. He can take a few steps here and there but has no interest in actually walking.

Cool thanks guys. I was just wondering if it had anything to do with her being a preemie or if she just didn't want to walk.
We are still going to talk to her doctor about her left foot though. She still turns it it so that she stands on her ankle. She fixes it after she gets her balance but I still think it's weird.

That's normal and my preemie was late too. He couldn't sit up by himself when he was 8 months old. He started walking around 15 months.

Up to 18 months is normal. Teagan didn't walk until 18 months.

My son was born at 28 weeks, and he was more with his adjusted age than real age up until about 17 months old. (They told us most preemies catch up to their peers by 2 years old.) He didn't walk until he was 14 months old. It took DH and I sitting on the floor and holding his hands while he took little steps. We passed him back and forth a couple times a day and would get further and further away so he was taking more steps. The next week, he was walking like a pro. lol
